By stats, maybe. But my eyes tell me he got hot later than that streak started.

A newest impressive top-X:

While I would've ranked the Montreal goal higher than 5 personally, it's absolutely insane that he's had so many highlight reel goals that it can be left up for debate. Even more amazing was that the Honorary Goals lasted forever . Can't wait for what he has in store for the next update.

Inhuman

And yeah, Ovechkin has made a better effort the last several games, and it shows immediately on the scoreboard.

By the way, guys, has anyone made a good recent AO highlight reel? Forsberg this, Forsberg that - but I've never seen a better highlight video than Loffen's old "Domination".

This one is old, but for me still the best:

My favourite

The highlights are old but the song (The Beast) describes him perfectly. My favourite Ovi season was 2009-2010. He was an absolute monster physically and stats wise. He was laying out gigantic hits before he got suspended.

Yeah, that's my fave youtube of him too.

But I'd love to see someone do his recent hits plus the aftermath. They are still so punishing but he's more strategic about it now.

Really cool videos. IIRC, Ovie didn't even begin to skate until he was 7 years old. That's pretty remarkable that he could skate so well at age 10. :amazed:
Eight! And it could have been even later hadn't Ovechkin's dad asked his neighbor, a former world champion, in a casual conversation, when does his year start practicing.

Ovie now 12th all time in scoring for Left wings with 1,005 points, passing Brian Propp.
Should be in the top 10 next year. Also, 31st all time in assists for Left wings with 459.

Now, 179th all time in assists and 83rd all time in points.

Are there any other DC area sports athlete current or past who would make it in a list like this for their respective sport?

Who else has been league MVP multiple times in the D.C. area? Has there been anyone else?

I feel like Ovechkin isn't just #1, but he's #1, #2, and #3. No one's even close IMO.

in the midst of one of the most amazing seasons in NFL annals he had arguably the greatest single-game performance in history: In a 42-20 win over the Detroit Lions on Nov. 14, Baugh fired four touchdown passes, intercepted four passes and got off an 81-yard punt, the longest of the year in the NFL.

After looking him up, he might be a bigger legend relative to his sport, but he played like 100 years ago, and professional sports were so different from today. In modern sports, it's Ovi no doubt.

Last one hundred years baseball has been by far the more popular sport, and hes ranked higher than ovechkin ever will be in their perspective sport.
