Thanks for the link, very handy. It's really a shame that some of the parent clubs are so far away from their minors. For example, Lake Erie (Cleveland) being affiliated with Columbus might serve to increase interest for the Jackets in Cleveland. It's not a terribly long drive and could but a few more butts in Nationwide Arena. Of course there are so many factors in these affiliations I imagine it's difficult to be that simple.

That whole close thing is overrated. UNLESS the Western teams start moving their guys out West. as of now the reason I hear is they like their prospects out East because they can actually practice. I'm sure Abbotsford is hurt by this considering they gotta fly everywhere

I realize this is going back in time for a quote, and remove if needed or what not please if needed. Wouldn't they be able to practice regardless? I mean, the NHL teams have places to practice in Los Angeles, San Jose, etc. Its not like they are practicing outdoors.

It's about travel time. I'm not sure how long it takes Abbotsford to get to each city but I know it took Rochester a total of 22 hours to get to Abbotsford last year (I believe it was fly Rochester to Houston to Seattle all commercial, bus to Abbotsford). If it's the same or similar for every trip Abbotsford has to leave for, you're losing 2 potential practice days a week.

On the other hand, you have Utica where most of the time, they're bussing a couple hours back and forth on game day and not losing any significant practice time.

Abbotsford and St. John's have subsidies, but again, it's pretty much a conference schedule, very few East teams go to midwest/west cities and vice versa, hence why you see both of those play back to back games in any other market or at home.

I get you. I misunderstood and thought you were referencing "home" practices. :shakehead

The Oklahoma City Barons are not owned Edmonton. The franchise was previously operated by Edmonton. But the Barons are currently owned by "Bob Funk Jr., who headed the Blazers' ownership group, is also at the helm of Prodigal Hockey LLC, the Barons' ownership group."

I thought the Checkers' majority owner became a minority owner in the Hurricanes?

If so, I'd say that made an affiliation switch rather unlikely :)

I think there should also be a notation with the NHL owned teams which ones are operated by a local group such as the GF, Utica, etc. arrangements.

I've been told by someone within the organization that the Rampage and Panthers have a "multi-year deal" that was signed prior to this season. No idea the length, however.

The last word I found online was that they had signed a multi-year deal prior to the 2012-13 season. By definition, that means it would have lasted through AT LEAST '13-'14, and quite possibly longer. But, that's why I used "2014 at least" in the description. Given the fact that, at this point, there's likely nowhere else to go, I'm thinking we won't see any changes until after next season.

For the record, Nashville and Milwaukee typically extend their affiliation agreement for 2 years at a time. They have been doing that since 1998.
