How do you put a guy on LTIR when he's not injured??

Anyways....

Just for the record...and not that I think it'll matter too much...but Schmidt will be exempt from waivers...but Schilling will not (When they eventually sign their deals). Get Schilling to sign a two year one way at 700k or something reasonable.

I bring this up because I could see Schilling beating out Erskine in camp....and then the Caps just waiving Erskine and burying the cap hit in the minors. Leaving Schilling and Hillen as the extra D men.

So without any other moves...calling up Latta. Orlov and Wilson ready to go.

**** it. Put Wilson with 19 and 8 and see what happens.

It's based on nothing, but in terms of icetime, I kind of expect Chimera-x-Ward to be the second line. If that x is Helm, I'd actually be pretty stoked about that happening.

Mojo and Green for Helm, Kindl and some random prospect or a pick or something.

Kinda messes up that 2nd/3rd line with the whole Laich/Brouwer thing.

That's a good looking lineup. And our special teams would make us dangerous.

Erskine played only 2 of the final 18 games or so and none of the final 15. he returned from an injury. played two games and they shut him down.

lets see if he passes his pre season physical. I bet he doesn't.

Whatever. LTIR or buired in the minors...either way...I too think he's not going to be on the team next year. There are just too many other good D men in front of him with some kids prime to take his place.

But who knows....maybe he's a Trotz kinda guy.

That is a brutal trade for us. We downgrade with both players. Sure Helm is a good defensive 3rd line center but I think it's pretty obvious that Ward and Chimera will do fine with anyone between them.

And why exactly do we need to free up cap space anymore? There is nobody left worth signing.

Someone please explain me to how trading MaJo + Green for Helm + Kindl makes us a better team. Green > Kindl and Johansson > Helm.
For me....I think its more of a get players that make you better for the long haul for a player that could potentially leave after this season.

Helm is better than Mojo at being a bonafide NHL center. His PK'ing (top 30 center for Avg SH TOI) and his game fits better than what Mojo brings.

Helm. All the talk ive seen on this including among Detroit hockey media, none of it mentions Helm. Its Tatar and Nyquist and lesser prospects.

Green could probably return Helm + Kindl by himself. Not a chance you need to throw Johansson in.

Helm's game fits what better? Trotz's system? We have no idea what fit MaJo brings as a center because he's done it so rarely, and we certainly don't know how he'd look under Trotz. MJ90 also is very good on the PK and is effective on the PP. I think people here are ready to flush MaJo too quickly.

The work Trotz did with ???? is legendary. :sarcasm:

Green AND Johansson for Kindl and Helm is, value-wise, an absolutely horrible trade though. Johansson should have pretty decent trade value.

Hopefully they switch to a more aggressive/assertive PKing system. I think Johansson could really utilize his speed and reach in a system like that, as well.

Johansson's faceoff ability and overall physical play are huge question marks. We haven't seen him line up at center but there are significant questions in whether he would translate. As-is it would be very shaky. The same goes for Kuznetsov. It's why Laich at 2C seems like the default option for a coach like Trotz.

I'd think the Wings would part with Helm rather than Sheahan as far as their centers go so that should definitely be the starting point IMO. Helm & Tatar for Green would do it for me (and maybe even just Helm and some certain futures). No interest in Kindl at that cap hit. While Helm isn't a 2C he would be a PKing center capable of playing above the fourth line (it's not clear they have that anywhere in the system otherwise). Tatar was one of Detroit's better possession players last year and seems like more of a natural center than the "centers" the Caps like to reference as options. That would give them twelve quality forwards and perhaps more of a willingness to start Wilson in Hershey. It would enable Trotz to give out TOI and line assignments only as earned. Plus they'd have a good ~$3M or so to use as needed (or more if it's futures rather than Tatar). Perhaps that could also position them to trade for a legit 2C at some point involving futures and players either not thriving or thought to be suspect fits.

Johansson was good on the PK 4 years ago. He's barely played there since then scaling gradually to a career low of 26 minutes last year.

Wow...for a guy touted as a solid 2-way center pre-draft, terrible usage or terribly ineffective player this far into his career...not sure which.

Darren Helm is not a 2C. If we're targeting centers from Detroit, I'd rather go all in on someone like Zajac with Green and Mojo+. Or go all in with a lot of +++ for Henrique.
