A winless streak that almost was...

As most of us know, the 1980-81 Winnipeg Jets holds the NHL record for longest winless streak at 30.

However,

I did some research and found out that there almost was an even worse strek than that.

It involves the Kansas City Scouts (Remember them??)

From the Sports E-Cyclopedia:

a 16-game winless streak from December 28th to February 7th would end all hopes for a playoff run. Things would only get worse after their February 7th win over the Washington Capitals as the Scouts failed to win another game the rest of the season losing 21 and tying 6

Think about that.

There could have been a 44-game winless streak!!

Can you imagine THAT as the longest winless treak??

Holy moly... one game and the Jets would have been merely second on that list.

What's even more amazing is that they almost had a 44-game winless streak and somehow *didn't* finish in last place overall, thanks to the godawful Washington Capitals (who were also the opposition for the only win KC recorded in that stretch).

Which is a perfect example why we no longer have the Kansas City Scouts gracing the NHL landscape anymore. Or for that matter the Cleveland Barons.

Yet they looked like a Stanley Cup contender compared to the previous year...

Over/Under:

50 people watching the game at Kemper Arena that day?
