Obviously a lot can change in four years, but Canada could still be pretty stacked in 2022 should the NHL choose to go. A good mix of younger guys and vets from the "Golden Age" teams of the last few years, with their ages could look something like..

Dubois (23) - MacKinnon (26) - Drouin (26)
Marchand (33)- Crosby (34) - Schiefle (28)
Stamkos (32) - (Couturier (29) - Tavares (31)

Marner (24), Huberdeau (28)

Chabot (24) - Doughty (32)
Edmundson (28) - Parayko (28)
Rielly (27) - Ekblad (25)

Hamilton (28), Pietrangelo (32)

Canada 2022 looks relatively mediocre to me. The disappointing draft years start to have an impact by that point.

eh we still got a lot of breakouts that could happen, plus future drafts.

Team Canada will as usual be loaded by the 2022 Olympics. There is always also going to be that breakout player that becomes a star that nobody expected to. Canada will once again with the opportunity to ice its best players have by far and away the best roster on paper and more than likely on ice. Its been like that throughout history and it isn't going to drop off.

On Pettersson's current trajectory, I would expect him to be higher up in the lineup.

okay, I'll make a couple of controversial calls on the roster for China 2022.

I'll cut Stamkos, Benn and Doughty. As much as I love Drew, he's played way too much and plaing 30+ minutes a night, he'll have nothing left by the age of 32. I hope he manages to maintain his level of play beyond his 3os and gets one more crack at Olympic glory, I just don't think we'll see it. And since my preferred average age for an Olympic team is 28, this is as close as I can get.

Sid will be inspired to play next to his Cole Harbour compadre and deliver one more performance as Captain before retiring to Nova Scotia to raise his kids and future Team Canada players.

Marchand and Bergeron, not quite the players they once were, are still smart enough for 4th line defensive duties.

And since everybody is on the Barzal train (including me) he gets a roster spot for now.

My take on a 2022 Swedish team.
Decent forwards, mind blowing defence and mediocre goalies, if no surprises happen along the way.
Hopefully Alex Nylander’s bad season is just a bump in the road, otherwise someone like Holtz or Elias Lindholm might take his spot. I left off Zibanejad as I think these forwards are better at executing a puck posession game. Line 1-3 are pretty even.
Many countries would be very happy picking their defenders from our back up roster.
Goalies are tough to pick. A guy like Söderström could easily have become a good #1 by now.

Landeskog (29) - W. Nylander (25) - A. Nylander (23)

So judging by the OP and the rosters others have put up, not a single player worthy of being on the Olympic team will be drafted between 2018-2021?

I know the Swedish NT has a problem with Zibanejad but unless Alex Nylander hits another level in his development theres no way he makes it over Zibanejad.

Are you attempting to say this as if it would be a big stretch? In 2014 Canada had 0 players who had been drafted in the previous four drafts. In 2010 there were 2. In 2006 there were 2. In 2002 there was 1. In 1998 there were 0. In the Olympic tournaments featuring NHL players Canada has taken on average only one player drafted in the four drafts preceding the tournament.

Should have been at least 3...so, let's hope Hockey Canada learned a valuable lesson not to leave off NHL prodigy rookies who are TOP 3 in league scoring at the time the Olympic roster is named. (iirc I believe Sid was in the Top 3 in scoring).

but I'm not always confident that everybody at Hockey Canada is capable of learning from past mistakes.

beyond that, it's impossible to project the development curve for players who are, at this point, between the ages of 14-17. There's only 1 16 year old currently who could possibly be in that conversation. I've never seen Lafreniere play other than internet highlight packages, he looks promising, but I have serious doubts he'll be NHL Olympic level by the age of 20. I hope he is. fingers crossed. would be great if Quebec started spitting out offensive dynamos again.

Crosby went on a run right after the Olympic team was announced. He only had 33 points in 33 games when the roster was announced, which I am sure was far from top three in scoring. I don't consider Crosby to have been quite the snub that most people portray him as.

wow! really? only 33 games were played when the Olympic team was announced? early announcement. 1st. week in December '05?

I considered it to be a rather significant snub. anyway! ancient history.

By the time the tournament as played Crosby was playing very well, which coloured people's perceptions surrounding the selection process. There are probably at least two players who didn't make the team that I would have picked over Crosby. Part of that is that the 2006 team, like the 2010 team, was announced before Christmas.
