I'm typing this on a green screen. You're not actually looking at a live background of my reply.

I thought this style of arguing of calling whatever random thing I don't like un(insert country) was exclusive to the USA. Guess not.

This has been going long before the pandemic. I've seen it consistently since the Sportsnet takeover but there was a particularly bad segment "shot infront of the Bell Centre" after the game last night that just set me off. Its like they're not even trying anymore - like they know they can lie straight to the viewer and it doesn't matter because we'll just take it in as it is without a problem. It's almost like lying so blatantly to people absolves them of any responsibility because now everyone's in on it.

It's disgusting and it's just bad, lazy television

Jeez… I sure hope all of my colleagues and webinar attendees realize I am not actually on a beach during our meetings and that those are actually virtual backgrounds. Crap!

… man… I am now just thinking about the time I used the Last Supper image as my virtual background… oops!

Were you actively manipulating people to believe you were physically broadcasting from those locations?

Kinda weird that you're defending a billion dollar corporation working to deceive the average veiwer.

Really makes you think

Does it matter at all whether they're standing in front of a building or in front of a picture of a building?

"Manipulation" and "deceive" imply that the average viewer puts any value whatsoever on that distinction.

I really hope this thread isn't deleted because of trolls. I think it's an honest point/discussion on what we're viewing and what's being fed to us as 'real' hockey coverage.

Do I really care that the Sportsnet post-game reporter isn't really standing outside the Bell Centre? - no. Do I care that almost every supposed "on site" report involving small towns and communities is done with a single camera feed with an 'on site' reporter standing infront of a greenscreen in Toronto - kinda, yeah.

It's phoney. It's fake. It's unCanadian.

What makes it unCanadian?

Semi finals game 7 and they don't even have the announcers in the building. Pathetic.
