He plays for CSKA Moscow and leads the RSL in scoring with 21 pts in 18 games. Malkin is second with 20 pts.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Krikunov selected up to 6 forwards from the RSL : Malkin, Zinoviev, Sushinsky, Morozov, Korolyuk, Kharitonov. But no defensemen, please no defensemen!

thank God they left off Kvasha, Chubarov and Karpovtsev.
Why? I've seen Kvasha play for NYI and he's pretty good, he scores, and is good defensively. I think he could have helped.

Kavasha was the worst Russian forward at the World Cup. No harm him being on the perliminary roster, but when it comes to the final team... competition from NHL and RPHL guys who want to make it seems stiff... he dosent belong anywhere near the final Olympic team.

I don't know much about chemistry but these look like some potent lines:

LW - C - RW:
Kovalchuk - Yashin - Fedorov
Frolov - Datsyuk - Kovalev
Samsonov - Zhamnov - Mogilny
Ovechkin - Malkin - Zherdev

D: Gonchar, Tverdovsky, Volchenkov, Kalinin, Zhitnik, Zubov, Markov

G: Khabby, Nabokov

My best team in terms of forwards (defense is a big mess which I wont start picking at) is:

Sushinsky-Datsyuk-Kovalev
Frolov-Yashin-Samsonov
Kovalchuk-Federov-Khartinov
Ovechkin-Malkin-Afinogenov

Extra forward: Morozov.

Backup lines in case of injuries or declinations:
Mogilny-Zinov'ev-Korolyuk
Mozyakin-Zhamnov-Vorobiev

Oh yes, its really 78.

Mozyakin was added at the last minute. (Sheesh! Leading scorer in the RSL)
Chistov was added after the deadline. (Why, Ive got no idea)

Fedor Federov's addition was a waste of ink. A career minor leaguer, worse then SO many others that could have made it. I guess its all in courtship of Sergei, and to please his father.

Aye,

He felt homesick and didnt like the North American style as he had a difficult time adjusting and being as good as he is. So he left for the easier pastures of the RSL.

Since then he has been the Russian league's best forward pretty much every year. That includes the lockout year when every RSL team was brimming with top of the line NHLers. The Wild are missing out. Perhaps someone should offer him enough money to coounteract his oath to never play in North America again. (Im not sure if he actually swore this)

Krikunov told the press that the only real candidates to Torino from the Karjala Cup were Sokolov, Zvyagin, Morozov and Semin.

Awww! Id want Zinoviev over Zhamnov... or at least as the 13th forward. Yet... he is rather slow. Mozyakin is another that is pretty good, but vastly undervalued from that roster. You dont lead the RSL in scoring for no reason!
