All time series record:
The Sharks lead the series 18-16-3 with the Islanders having a 3.1 GFPGA while the Sharks are averaging 2.9 GFPGA. Islanders all time at San Jose are 8-10-1 with a 2.8 GFPGA. The Sharks are averaging 2.6 GFPGA at home VS the Islanders.

The San Jose Sharks may be breathing a little easier after putting out their first win of the season.
A win over their next opponent may have them feeling more confident as they look to put a slow start in the rear-view mirror.

The Sharks will try to even their record as they continue a season-opening homestand on Saturday night against the New York Islanders.

San Jose swept the season series in 2016-17 with a pair of 3-2 victories, and is 7-2-1 in its last 10 home games versus New York.

The Sharks avoided beginning a season with three straight losses for the first time in 24 years after defeating Buffalo 3-2 on Thursday night.

Despite the win, the Sharks (1-2-0) are still looking to get on track offensively. San Jose managed only seven goals so far, tying division rivals Edmonton and Vancouver for the fewest in the Western Conference.
Many of the Sharks' top offensive players from last season are still struggling to get their names on the scoresheet. Norris Trophy winner Brent Burns and Pavelski each own only one assist and Logan Couture has scored once.

Against Buffalo, Peter DeBoer's team got offense from its third line. Timo Meierand Chris Tierney each had a goal and an assist and Joonas Donskoi collected two helpers.

Martin Jones has not faced New York since being lifted after giving up two goals on three shots in the first 3:30 of San Jose's 4-2 loss on Nov. 10, 2015. Among goalies with at least three appearances this season, Jones owns the fourth-worst save percentage (.881).
Backup Aaron Dell, who's yet to start a game this season, defeated the Isles in his NHL debut last Oct. 18.
New York (1-3-0) continues its annual swing through California after falling 3-2 to Anaheim on Wednesday.

Brock Nelson, one of five Islanders with at least 20 goals last season, potted his first two of new campaign. Nelson has three assists in five games all-time at SAP Center

John Tavares, the Isles' cornerstone since being drafted first overall in 2009, owns two goals and four assists over five career games in San Jose. He's notched a point in four of those contests, including two multipoint games.

The Islanders may be without Jordan Eberle, who didn't practice Friday after absorbing a hit in practice on Thursday. Weight told the team's official website that he didn't know what the winger's status would be for this contest.
Eberle, who is in his first season with New York after spending his first seven with Edmonton, owns 13 points (seven goals, six assists) over 14 career games in Northern California.

Though Jaroslav Halak (1-1-0, 2.45 goals-against average) has been the better of the Isles' two goaltenders this season, Thomas Greiss (0-1-1, 4.38) could get the nod against his old team. The 31-year-old native of Germany was 17-16-3 with a 2.52 GAA in 44 games, including 32 starts, with San Jose between 2007 and 2013.
Greiss yielded seven goals on 61 shots this season.

Would like to see the pp get on track.
Let's go Isles.
It's not going to be successful the way it is constructed with JT playing high. He needs to be down near the crease with Lee taking space up right in the goalies grill. JT is not a great shooter, he scores uo to 10' from the net.

Put Pulock in the line up, just to see if his shot cannot make a difference and live with his rookie miscues.

Pulock needs to get a look tonight. SJ is the weakest team of this Cali road trip. PP needs help. Lets see if the 27-91-12 can bring some last season chemistry tonight

Isles need a statement game.

Sharks are a much different team than in prior years, they are half rebuilding, still have some talent.

Time to step up and have a big game.

*Insert rant about PP here*

I'm feeling a win, Greiss needs to play well and Barzal needs to step up.

Would like to see Lee-Tavares-Bailey rekindle old fires...think Barzal gets his first point tonight.

Time for JT to enter beast mode and showcase himself to the rest of the league. ;)

In all seriousness, beatable team here. Better put their shit together. These losses can start piling up and take them out of it early; forced to play catch-up the rest of the season. That usually doesn’t work. We’ve seen this song and dance.

The Sharks lineup looks like the definition of top heavy. They have like 4 or 5 guys who are high-end, then the rest look like your typical mediocre bottom six/bottom pairing players.

Weight says lineup to be determined, but likely the same depending on Clutterbuck and Eberle. I'm quickly getting tired of his shit.

Interesting. I don't think this is a team you can take lightly.

Everyone seems to be playing in a role they are suited for/can handle without much issue.

They could use a top six upgrade at the deadline, but they won't be starving for goals either.

Really? I'd argue the opposite. I'd say one of their biggest issues is offense after three guys (Thornton, Pavelski, Couture). Maybe add Hertl if the guy can remain healthy for more than 40 games.

It was one of the reasons they didn't do all that much last year. They essentially had 3 or 4 reliable scorers, then a bunch of mediocre players who produce at low end 3rd/4th line levels.

Obviously they see a major deficiency in Pulock's game, so much so that he is really not going to get a chance unless there is an injury. I wonder how many deals Snow passed on involving him. If we lost out on a good piece for a guy who isn't cracking the lineup anytime soon, it will be one more log on the Snow shitshow bonfire.

Completely agree on this one. Lee is odd man out with JT and Eberle. Bailey was instrumental in setting up both 91 and 27 last year. Far more play making going on with these three vs 27-91-7. I have yet to see this line really work the cycle down low. PP would benefit greatly from simply getting shots to the net. Too much perimeter fiddle dicking IMHO. Would also like to see Ladd with JT and Eberle and Barzal with Lee and Bailey.

Dell in nets for San Jose. Eberle playing and Clutterbuck is ready up to Weight.

Also looks like Quick is going tonight for LA, so that would mean Halak vs Kuemper. Isles need to come out and take advantage. A pp goal would be not bad.
