Had some time this morning (it's a lovely 90ish with dew points near 80 right now) to more closely look at our schedule:

Key points (btw: I like this year's schedule versus LY):

Division: we only have to play Devils & Rangers 3x versus 4 against the rest of the Division

Key Games: Recognizing that I have probably missed a team or two (always at least one team that favorably bubbles up each year...ie perhaps Ottawa), I've detailed our key games versus 11 teams:
The Devils, Rangers, Cats, Bolts, Leafs, Vegas, Dallas, Avs, Oilers, Kraken, Kings.
We have 13 at home & 14 on the road.

All 1st Half: Oilers (both by 1st 25), Kraken (both by 1st 8), Tampa (crazy--all 3 by game 19)
All 2nd Half: Devils, Leafs, Dallas
Mostly 1st Half: Rangers, Cats - 2/3 of games
Split: Kings, Vegas, Avs

Table with Home/Away each month plus key game schedule:

A quick manual count has 25 of New Jersey’s first 38 games against teams that didn’t make the playoffs last year, and the Devils play more home games than road games in that stretch. A decent lead in the division in early January wouldn’t be a surprise.

And then the Canes have a stretch of 11 of 12 at home from Jan 5th through Feb 10th. An opportunity to make a move to close the gap or create some buffer on a lead.

Canes is a team of defence. No matter, home or away, good or bad team against, just keep your door closed. Make 30 goals during season and you are cup winner. 16 of them is needed in playoffs and 14 for 1-0 wins. Otherwise 0-1 loss in OT/penaltyshots is enough. That's 96 points and PO spot.

They were up on us quite a bit early last year, no? Thought we came from behind to win the division.

Win all the games. 82-0-0 regular season and 16-0 in the playoffs.

Do this, or we riot.
If the Miami firgging Dolphins can do it we can do it
