With the 2019 draft and development camp done and finished, what do you think the Caps prospect rankings should be this year? Part of an ongoing series.

Admittedly, I'm not familiar with a lot of them, so it'll be interesting to read what you guys think.

I took this initial list from another site, so feel free to request an add of another prospect!

The requirement is U25, and less than 25 NHL games played.

Note: I'll start the next prospect ranking thread the next day if the polling isn't close. If two or more prospects are within 10 votes of each other, I'll leave that thread out for the additional day.

At some point, the actual performance of VV should matter, yes??
What's wrong with his performance? There was a grand total of 1 goalie in the AHL younger than him that had a higher save percentage (Josef Korenar). Nedeljkovic is just about the same age (older by two days) and has a better save percentage than both.

Nothing is wrong. That’s my point. I voted for him at 5. And again at 6. And now at 7

Ah, my mistake. Thought you were going the other way with it.
Understandable. Most have done that, and I simply don’t get it.

I have VV and IS splitting time as the goalies for DC *if* Holtby leaves (which I’m on the fence about for a variety of reasons).

I think it’s eerily similar to Varlamov & Neuvirth coming up....with hopefully even better results.

We may even have a Holtby somewhere down there farther back.

Vitek would be higher thought of if he wasn't playing the same position as Samsonov. He was drafted 39OA and hasn't disappointed. I think he plays in the NHL and the Caps continue to be a goalie factory.

Here's the part where I vote Sutter in like 5 polls in a row.
Can you make the case for Sutter over Protas? They seemed to have similar years going into the draft and are both big centers, 3rd round picks, but maybe Protas can have a better year this year than Sutter had last year.

Protas skates like he's stuck in mud. Maybe his first few strides will improve with additional coaching and development, and he will shoot up in my evaluation if they do. But until they do, I'm going to remain bearish about his potential.
Sutter can skate at an NHL level.

I don't think either of them stick at center in the NHL. We'll see if Sutter plays center in the AHL this year.

Easily IMO. Sutter is a much better skater already and has shown growth as a goal scorer (he actually took a big leap before getting hurt). Protas advantage is his enormous size, and he is enormous. But Sutter plays a physical game too. I think both guys look like 3rd line players at best, based on skillsets.

Protas is really raw to me. He looks years away. Sutter I think could contribute next year, maybe even this year with a big year in Hershey.

I think we can close this one. Do we really see 17 straight votes or whatever for AJF?

Let’s get to the meat of this!!

I think the concerns with Protas and his skating are pretty overblown given his upside relative to the field. It's pretty rare for a draft-eligible to put up the numbers he did in the WHL playoffs. Those numbers were comparable to Leason's while being two years younger and not really slower IMO. He's not as strong defensively as Leason but in two years I'd figure on him being the better player at the same age. I don't think he sticks at center per se but there's a potential power winger profile with a rare combination of shooting ability and vision if all goes right. To me he's a better prospect than Sanford was at the same age. The skating knocks him down but to me the rarity of his skill set distinguishes him from what's a fairly vanilla group ultimately.
