Will Power dominates......

Indy 500 pole qualifying format changing---NO more "Bump Day", Fast 9 to be determined Saturday; all positions, to be locked in by Sunday the 17th, "Carb Day" REMAINS the Friday of 500 weekend.

weren't there 2 weeks of qualifying, and the 2nd weekend was "Bump Day"?, and I took that directly from the IMS and their 500 page

There's never been an official bump day. But when qualifying was spread over two weekends the last Sunday invariably became bump day because by then all 33 spots had been filled. This year's format was already around last year. At some point on the second day all 33 slots will be filled and any potential bumping can happen. Of course there probably won't be more than one or two cars possibly trying to bump in.

All 33 drivers qualified today; Scott Dixon your pole sitter for the 99th 500;

another flip involving Ed Carpenter caused a technical change slowing the cars down and pushing qualifying back 2 hours to 3 pm ET; all cars did 1 lap in qualifying due to the revised regulations

All cars did four laps. But all cars had only one attempt.

And **** you ABC.

ABC hasn't technically existed in its sports coverage, Eddie, ever since Disney bought Capital Cities Communications, and ESPN became their sports leader, hence the production end became ESPN on ABC, all Sports-related programming there, at least it was carried.... Blaming ABC for what, exactly, running the 2014 500 on Saturday when it poured buckets?

the same thing has occurred with all 3 networks with the creation of NBCSN AND CBS Sports Network, filling gaps in network coverage, Indycar has the same issue when its races are on NBCSN, Don't They?

Hinchcliffe update

it's a upper left thigh injury on the 23rd lap of practice after a lap of 223.916; cause of incident was determined to be a right front suspension failure on the #5 SPM Honda sponsored by Lucas Oil and Arrow.

there is no determination if the car will be repaired or who will drive it, or do we go with only 32 since Indycar has to approve any driver change since it's the car that qualifies.

then it has to be a Honda replacement but I can definitely say Kurt Busch will not be considered at this late point in time.

Latest on Hinchcliffe replacement

You can bet the car will be repaired and a replacement driver named.

Interview from Indycar's official site says Hinchcliffe remains in stable condition, SPM has ruled Hinchcliffe out of the 500, no driver named as of yet...

issue w/ the free agent drivers is some are racing in other series and have existing contracts... the issue remains and isn't specified that does it have to be a driver that has not qualified the car, run during the month of May, has no other commitments and isn't bound to either Chevrolet or Honda

I never get tired of watching that ending and seeing Mears close the gap on Johncock every lap, right down to the finish.

The drivers talk about the finish...

I've seen a lot of races there. Any race fans who hasn't seen a 500 in person needs to. And if you're just passing through any time of the year, stop and see the museum. The museum is full of fantastic automotive and race history. Do it.

Nice ending, but I hate that the city of Indianapolis will never get to see the race live. I'd love for the blackout to be lifted for the 100th running of the race... as an experiment.
