Who it has hurt the most are the guys who would be recruited as a “project”. You probably won’t see UNB bringing in guys like Dion Campbell or Spencer Corcoran anymore...guys who were brought in to be a depth player but eventually worked their way into the lineup. I doubt a top team now would tie up a roster spot or two for these type of guys so the opportunities for them are probably no longer there.

Aren't there actually better opportunities for those types of players now - to go somewhere else (see: OUA) and get regular ice?

On the other hand, if you're a Maritimer and want to go to school in the Maritimes and play for a strong team, and you are willing to not be guaranteed ice time, shouldn't you have that option?

Maybe, but all that will happen then is that they will be taking the spots of bottom of the roster guys in those leagues....unless those teams would carry more total players.

At the end of the day, the roster cap most likely means that overall there are less U Sports hockey players in the country.

Not less players in the country, less players on AUS teams, since this is the only conference that has implemented this policy.

I was looking at the broader picture, but yes, the AUS specifically is the cause.

Adam was arguing that the guys who might no longer have opportunities in the AUS could go to the OUA. My counter argument is that while that is true, those guys would just be replacing other players so the net gain of total players in the OUA is zero. A better opportunity for one player just means a lost opportunity for another. Basically, OUA team are still going to carry 25-30 players regardless....those guys aren’t going to be in addition to their regular roster.

Essentially - same number of players in CW + same number of players in OUA + now fewer players in AUS = fewer overall players in U Sports

Fewer total spots doesn’t help any player, but especially the lower level guys who would be the first ones left out.
