Cancelled due to weather today. Don't think its getting in tomorrow either. Tuesday and Wednesday look good before issues come up again after that.

So Shifferen won't be running today? That's good news. I can see it when she does and won't feel bad for missing it because of Discovery.

I'm told 70-30 they go today. Its borderline again. This may not be pre-cancelled but they may wait til almost start time to decide. Tomorrow is out almost for sure as low pressure forms to the east and winds may be stronger than any day thus far. All clear after that so we have 2 more days of trouble...maybe just one if they go today.

Looks like a pretty difficult track with many tough turns meaning high speeds are difficult to maintain. This should be good.

Did I get all the events right?

1. Downhill
2. Super G = twistier downhill?
3. Slalom
4. Giant Slalom = bigger slalom?
5. Combined = 1 downhill + 1 slalom?

edit: lol

Why can't Canada Ski down a hill without moguls?

Outside of Bode Miller the US has never medaled in this event otherwise. Its generally not a North American strong point. Goldberg has an outside shot but I think the only one person has ever finished more than 0.75 back in the 1st part and won the event.

well not the event, I just mean the discipline.
I mean there's Shiffrin, and Mancuso and Lindsey whatsherface (drawing a blank), Ted Lidicky, Bodie Miler etc.

I mean I remember in 2010, Canada made this huge stink about our ski team and they all flamed out - but i mean when it comes to free style, we're on it. its just peculiar.

The sticking point is that Canada does generally do OK on the circuit. Guys like Guay, MO-P, etc. have won their fair share of events...outside of the Olympics.

Guay basically turns into the Buffalo Bills at the Olympics. Harsh, but it's true.

This is definitely favouring strong slalom skiers. Marcel Hirscher would have to be a huge chance here.

He had to compete with massive gusts of breeze but he goes over second up on the previous leader, in the box seat.

That must've been stressful for Muffat-Jeandet. Went first and survived to earn a bronze.

Hirscher deserved gold but I have to say, disappointing event. Downhill track is way too short, we need courses with 1:40+, not 1:19. The shortness of the track severely disadvantaged the downhill specialists. They probably wouldn't have seriously threatened anyway, but they didn't have enough time to work with. That coupled with the slalom course being very difficult, with gusty conditions meant it was always in the bag for Hirscher. He had a great run in the downhill so props to him.

Plus crowd involvement wasn't really there, so overall it felt flat.

Lindsey Vonn has been dominant on the world cup circuit for quite some time -- she just doesn't have the olympic haul, which, for the casual ski observer, is pretty much the only thing that matters.

No changes on thoughts from yesterday, decent chance this does not go off today due to strong winds. If it does fail to go this should be the final postponement for the foreseeable future
