Not a huge fan of the deal as I wonder what this means for the young arms but at the same time it's good to have a solid vet to help said young arms. They still need to pull off a quantity for quality type trade to free up some spots in the minors at some point.
Well you need about 10 starters throughout the course of a season. Wouldn't shock me to see them take advantage of the 10-day DL like LA did last year to give certain guys off days.

Kingery can play 3rd, when Franco inevitably fails. Dude has no plate discipline and no situational awareness.
Not sure he has the arm for 3rd, but we'll see. Injuries usually dictate these callups. If no long term injuries I think he'll be a utility guy getting 5 starts a week all over the field.

Nola/Arrieta/Velaszquez/Eickhoff for sure. Fifth starter could be a number of guys (Pivetta? Thompson? Leiter?). I just hope it isn't Adam Morgan. Too bad they don't have a lefty they could stick in there somewhere.

I've heard that Thompson might be moving to the pen. Morgan is in the pen for good, interested to see what kind of year he has as he really seemed to turn things around in the 2nd half.

I could see Pivetta in LV to work on his secondary pitches. Eflin could be in the mix, I like Eshelman but could see him in LV to start out.

yea i've heard some talk that they plan on getting creative with the pen in terms of carrying extra guys with options to send down, something like they might carry 9 in the pen or something like that.

would have cut Eliezer Alvarez first since I don't know what's the point of having him on the 40. Wonder if they can get anything for Rupp.

They "tried" Joseph at different positions but he's a 1st base only guy, behind 2 guys that hit from the same side of the plate as him. He had no value to the team and obviously no trade value.

Tommy Joseph picked up by the rangers, he needed to be on a team with a DH. Leiter back to philly for tests, could join Eickhoff on the DL to start the year.

looks like 2-3 weeks for Leiter and then he's going to start throwing again so hopefully it's good news as he was having a good showing so far this spring.

Man I wanted cobb 4 yr 60m from orioles , klentak could have easily have done that.

I get it they don't want long contracts the 7 or 8 yr deals 150m I'm fine with that.

4 yr would have been great for a guy entering his 7th mlb season he is in his prime.

KLENTAK GO BACK TO THE ANGELS.

Cobb would just be another righty, but he wouldn’t have been bad.

Teams have gotten smarter about free agents.
Cobb is nothing special, a minor upgrade over their young pitchers, who might be their #5 in 2019 and out of the rotation in 2020.

He average 2.5-2.9 WAR in his three seasons before his TJ injury, but only had 72 starts in those three seasons.
Actually pitched more last year, 29 starts, 179 innings, posting a 2.4 WAR season, but his K rate was down.

Figure a mediocre pitcher who lacks stamina is unlikely to be effective past 32 years old - 2020.
He's really not much different than Eickhoff, 91.5 MPH two seamer, relies on his curve as his out pitch. Splitter has been meh.
If the Phillies gave Eichkoff a 4 year extension at $57M, who would be excited?

Probably worth a 3 year, $45-50M deal (assume 2.5, 2.5, 1 WAR).
