If Chevy is eyeing a 1st round pick for the upcoming draft, I imagine the following picks are most likely to be traded as they are additional first round picks.

12th overall - NYI
19th overall - PHI
22nd overall - OTT
26th overall - NYR
27th overall - CHI
29th overall - DET
30th overall - NYR

With that being said, I believe the primary assets we would be willing to give up would be Myers and Perreault. Secondary assets would be Armia, Copp, Petan, Lemieux, and Dano.

I can't see a significant deal being made for mid-to-late 20th overall, however. Likewise, our trade chips might not be at all attractive for some of the teams listed. Are there any fans of these teams who could chime in on what the biggest needs are?

If I had to guess a player to be moved, MP seems most likely, but I don't know if a team gives up a 1st for him at this time of the year when draft picks hold there greatest value.

I could see a few teams giving up a 1st for Myers easily. Toronto, Edmonton and the Isles being a few. Though Toronto is harder to gauge because of Dubas at the helm.

i would think odds are that Chevy lands another first rounder through a trade (i expect Myers will very likely be dealt)

not many Finns this year but i am thinking Chevy goes the way of Finland again. Perhaps Kotkaniemi or Kupari?

Kotkaniemi's draft stock is rising after good performances U18 WJC's and he's likely going TOP10 so he isn't available for Jets.
Kupari is a guy who can fall late 1st round but not 2nd round.

Then there's guys like Jesse Ylönen, Sampo Ranta, and Niklas Nordgren.
Nordgren was best goal scorer in U18 WJC's ( 8 goals) and Finland's top scorer scoring 10 points ( 8+2) in 7 games.
He was also only Finn in U18 WJC's allstar lineup ( no need to mention Finland won Gold medal)

Nordgren isn't 1st round pick but i can see him getting drafted rounds 2 to 7.
If some winger prospect is potential boom or bust type project pick it's Nordgren.

Nordgren played this past season mostly in HIFK's U20 team where he scored 42 points in 28 games.
He also got 15 games in HIFK's SM liiga team and made his first points in SM liiga ( 3 assists).

Nordgren made his HIFK debut in Champions Hockey League last autumn playing 2 games vs Polish hockey team named Comrach Cracovia those games Nordgren scored 6 points ( 4+2) and was one of the best scorers in HIFK's team.

Part2 to my upper post.

Jesse Ylönen is 2nd generation hockey player.
His father Juha played 341 games in NHL representing Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators.

Jesse 6'1 tall RW is an extremely agile forward and quick stickhandler who likes to play the game at a high pace.
This past season Jesse played 48 games in Espoo United mestis team and he scored 27 points ( 14+13).

Espoo United's season in mestis ( Finland's 2nd league after SM liiga) was a total farce.
Espoo United's team suffered with serious financial problems all season long and went bankruptcy after the season.
Next season Jesse plays in Pelicans Lahti SM liiga team he signed 2 yrs contract with Pelicans last month.

It's looking more and more like this draft is going to be a bit of a crazy one beyond pick 15. Apparently there is a tonne of discrepancy between teams as to where guys slot in. I think Drury will be gone before our pick, which saddens me as he is a perfect Jets pick. Getting a first for this draft would be amazing. Could be some good potential fallers though. Times like these I wish I could see every teams list.

I am predicting 3 Finns are taken by Chevy.

I think we need a player with those two dots accents over his name. A real conversation piece.

We seem to draft a lot more Americans than Finns. I think our scouts have a heavy focus on Minnesota/Michigan area high school and USHL teams. Samberg, Connor, Roslovic, Foley, Appleton, Glover, Suess, Poolman all taken out of that area. Jack Drury, Blake McLaughlin, Alex Steeves and Matthias Emelio Petterson are the only prominent guys that aren't overagers out of the USHL. Jack Perbix is the only name I've heard out of high school leagues.

Is that related to a possible "European factor"?

It seems like there are a ton of Euro skaters who could slot in anywhere between the second half of the first round and the late second (Kravtsov, Denisenko, Kupari, Berggren, Bokk, Kaut, Lundestrom, Lundkvist, Olofsson, Gustafsson, Hallander, Nordgren, Ylonen etc). I'd assume that there is gonna be more of a consensus in a strong CHL draft because there are so many eyes on the prospects. On the other hand, in a weak CHL / strong Euro draft, with some of the prospects even playing in "obscure" leagues like Allsvenskan/Mestis/MHL, I'd assume that the number of scouts who actually watched those guys live is pretty low, hence the bigger variance in the lists.

Maybe a case in point: I'm doing the HF Team Boards mock draft this year (currently at pick #20). Usually the results end up being very close to the consensus rankings of all scouting agencies / insiders. This year, the Flyers fan base picked Jonatan Berggren at #19 and Jacob Olofsson is currently leading the Kings' poll at #20. I did not see those picks coming and they're certainly not in line with consensus lists. It only takes one team to pick up on some Euro prospect, get more viewings in (whether it's HF fans watching streams or actual NHL Euro scouts attending more and more Allsvenskan games), fall in love, and you end up with a completely off the board pick (see also: Gurianov, Denis). Less likely to happen with an OHL player obviously.

Olofsson was a guy I thought would go first round. I thought Berggren would go 2nd round but I could definitely see him being an off the board pick. It's going to be a very strange draft for sure. Most drafts have some off the board picks past the top consensus guys but I think a lot of people will find themselves saying "Who!?" after a lot of picks past the top 15.

Who would be those 3 Finns?
Jets do not have 1st round pick this summer.

Kotkaniemi had good tournament in U18's.
And his draft stock is rising so much some team might take him TOP10.
Nordgren is promising young winger but he has flaws with skating, size and physicality.

Yes he was Finland's top scorer in u18's and only Finn in allstar roster and best goal scorer.
But still his draft stock is questionable due to skating and size issues.
Also there's no guarantees does Nordgren's game transite to NHL level.

If some winger prospect is potential boom or bust type project pick it's Nordgren.
Of course there's other Finns too like Sampo Ranta, Jesse Ylönen, Linus Nyman, and Justus Annunen.

Jesse Ylönen definitely meets my criteria. see the twö little döts over the ö.

Of course i jest, but I am pretty sure the Jets have a pretty strong finish connection at higher levels (and lower levels - Avgard?) and this is part of the team strategy going ahead. Is it 4 Finns in the last 3 years?

I doubt the Isles move a puck unless they've re-signed Tavares.

Myers to Edmonton for a 1st or to Montreal for a pair of 2nd round picks (they have 4) are the most likely moves IMO.

Well, not traders is the MOST likely, but if there were a trade...

is it worth having a thread for "potential mid-first to mid-second round" picks? I would say 80% chance Chevy pulls off a trade or two in this range. only 3 weeks away!

I think it's unlikely that Chevy trades into the middle of the 1st round.

Personally, if I were advising Chevy, I would suggest him to try and acquire quantity instead of trying to move up into 1st round picks.

Generally speaking, those that trade up lose more value than they gain.
I agree with this. High picks are at a premium at this point, and it will take too much value to get a high pick. Better to aim for a few picks in the 2nd or 3rd round, if he's looking to stock up on picks.

always thought a first rounder for your 2 to 7 round picks would be a good plan for chevy. a team like edmonton just wastes all the post second round picks anyways. :)

That's trading up in picks. That's not trading surplus players for picks.
