2018 Minnesota High School State Hockey Tournament

Small school quarterfinals were yesterday and big school got underway this morning. No Casey Mittelstadt level player this year, but probably a couple first rounders when it all shakes out.

Some of the high end NHL prospects:
Ryder Donovan (Duluth East)
Ben Brinkman (Edina)
Blake Biondi (Hermantown - small school tournament)

8th grader Nick Pierre on Hill-Murray could have his coming out party in this tournament.

Edina destroying Lakeville. 7-1 at the end of two. Walker looks as dominant as Mittelstadt did last year, though he does it more with speed than hands, though he is no slouch skillwise. TBL might've gotten a steal with him. Brinkman(2019) looks great as always, but I'm intrigued by Vorlicky(2018). Very solid, smart, RHD who has grown...looks to be over 6'. Might be a good pick in the later rounds? Nevers and Jungels(who make up the rest of the first line with Walker, both 2018) are very smart, smallish players with all the skills. Jungels lives up to his first name, Jett.

I'm not seeing much from Lakeville. They are getting destroyed.

I think Brinkman ends up being a first rounder next year, he's really something.

He needs to move up into a different level of competition night after night, and learn how to cope with hard, physical forechecks. It's too easy for him right now.

He's not marking up the scoresheet much but Ryder Donovan sure is impressive in nearly all aspects off his game. Looking forward to watching him tonight in the title game.

Ben Brinkman played as expected with loads of skill and calm as you would want while looking to break the puck out.

Will Francis is another player that is interesting as a very mobile 6'4" Dman with grit or borderline nastiness and some offensive flare to his game.

2019 is looking like a solid year out of Minnesota
