As is the annual tradition, I will be running an HFNHL playoff pool.

ENTRIES ARE DUE BY Thursday, APRIL 12 at 11:59 EST. Short notice, I know. But it's only fair given our playoff start date and 24 hours should be enough notice for people to take the 3-5 minutes of their day to do this voluntary pool.

Entries are to be posted on the boards in this thread. If your post is edited after Thursday, your entry will be null and void.

There is no entry cost, however the winner takes home a cool $1,000,000 to their HFNHL team.

Here are the match-ups. You can find the bracket here: HFNHL - Pro Standing

EASTERN CONFERENCE

1. NYI vs. 4. Toronto
1. Florida vs. 4. Boston
2. Tampa Bay vs. 3. Montreal
2. Pittsburgh vs. 3. New Jersey

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1. Colorado vs. 4. St. Louis
1. Anaheim vs. 4. Los Angeles
2. Edmonton vs. 3. San Jose
2. Chicago vs. 3. Nashville

I will post my entry below so everyone can see the format.

Remember for the second round, the winner of the 1 vs 4 matchup faces off against the winner of the 2 vs 3 game from the number 1's own division.

Oilers Picks

EASTERN CONFERENCE

1st Round:
Islanders - Leafs can match firepower and have the clear edge on the PP but an off year for Crawford in net sees goaltending as the clear deciding factor for the Isles
Bruins - Tough to argue against how hot the Panthers have been as of late and no one can stop Nikita Kucherov but I think in the end, with a little line juggling, the Bruins depth has them emerge from a tough 7 game series
Lightning - Way tougher call than it should be based on how loaded with talent the Lightning are. While the Bolts stumbled a little late in the season and will miss Adam Larson for the play-offs the real chink in the armor has been the dramatically underperforming special teams. The Habs are no poor team and will jump on any mistake Tampa makes but I still give the edge to Tampa
Penguins - Coin Flip? After missing the play-offs last season a resurgent Devils team helmed by verteran GM Rich Epstein stormed back only to have the misfortune of running into the defending Cup champs in round 1. Both teams have their strengths and easily a series that could go 7.
2nd Round:
Islanders - I never like to base too much on the regular season but in a series too close to call we have to resort to this. The Pens gave the Isles all they could handle in the regular season with 3 games going to OT and 2 resolved in a shootout but in the end the Isles emerged victoriois in 3 of 4.
Lightning - If they get past the Habs the matchups are in their favor against the Bruins
Eastern Conference Winner:
Islanders - I did actually flip a coin
WESTERN CONFERENCE
1st Round:
Avalanche - While no one would be surprised if there was another President's Trophy winner upset here, something their opponents have been the victom of, but I prefer to deal with stats instead of jinxes ... except the all powerful Bufu jinx of course ;)
Ducks - The Ducks have been an insanely streaky team all year and they could win this series in 4 or 5 or be bumped just as quickly. Both teams feature great goaltenders (Quick vs. Holtby). Despite the point difference this is another too close to call series and it's just by gut I pick the Ducks.
Sharks- So far only the Preds (thanks Tony) have picked the Oilers to win and I also will pick San Jose. Healthy I'd give the Oilers a 50/50 shot but starting out missing 2 dmen and the starting goaltender shifts the odds to 51/49 for the Sharks ;)
Blackhawks - Neither team will be showcasing elite special teams performances and but both have some skilled gaolies and teams. Like the Bruins I like some potential matchups for the preds that could stifle the Hawks a bit but in the end I give the edge to Chicago
2nd Round:
Ducks - How are they doing it? I don't know but it they got past Kings they must be on one of their hot streaks which usually run 8-10 games so enough to get by the Sharks too.
Avalanche - Clash of the titans part 2 goes to the Avs on a fluky OT goal by Brandon Dubinsky in game 6 - book it
Western Conference Winner:
Avalanche - ... and the clock struck twelve for the Ducks
HFNHL Stanley Cup Champion
Islanders - Bufu Jinx strikes the Avs.

While I haven't exactly reviewed all the results I'm guessing from a quick scan that Tony has pretty much locked the prize up with having three of the four finalists remaining (MTL, PIT, and COL).

Even though two GM's (Brock and Joe) have two teams (MTL and COL) remaining it looks like Joe might be the only one with an outside shot at tying Tony and even then I'm not even 100% sure there.
