Every year there's a mock draft done by the team boards of HF -- here are the results of 2015, 2016, and 2017. Rules are easy: just pick the player you want your team to draft based on who is still available; "trade the pick" is not an option ;)

Even though picking BPA is a thing, I still think the team should lean towards a d-man with how close (or in other words, how much of a crapshoot) the pack is like after the top 6-8.

I picked Sandin for two reasons. 1) he seems to be built for modern hockey. Good hockey sense & positioning, not the biggest guy, but doesn't shy away from physical play. And 2) Sweden has been a ridiculous d-man factory for quite some time now and the SHL is probably the best development league in Europe.

I picked Martin Kaut, it is a really tough decision, but I think he's just a half a step better than anybody else here. He is fast winger who plays a two-way game, strong, not afraid to go to the dirty areas. He has produced at every level he's played this year, in the Czech regular season and playoffs, World Junior Championship, and almost made the Czech team for the World Championships. I really like other players too here like Hayton, Bokk, Denisenko and Lundkvist, but Kaut is the best match here in my opinion.

I picked Samuelsson Mattias, we all want a shoot down defensman and Samuelsson could be the Answer in a future. 6"4 216 lbs and not so bad a late 1st or early 2nd Round Pick. He has the Height he has the weight and as addition not a bad wrist shot, he is able to score from the BlueLine. Seize and offensive Power not an bad descision. if we pass on him Phili definetly will add him, with his fathers History on the Club.
He is definetly mixed Ranked in all the mogdrafts and prospect lists.
His Father was a longtime Phili player.

How is the old rule, you can teach someone play defensly, but not to think offensive. The only thing he is not the best skater, but for his height and weight also not bad.

But i hope on TDL we pass on this Year 1st round and trade that pick + for some upgrade for the Team.

Great post. I like him and Farabee if we go forward. They are similar players, I think Farabee has a little better of a shot, but Kaut is a better skater. If we go D, I can see Tallon being all over Bode Wilde at #15, he's the kind of defenseman Tallon likes.
