Cougars already made their big acquisition with Guhle early in the year, and have made another big move. They're likely done unless something else pops up out of the blue.

Kelowna making moves Reid Gardiner in and Riley Stadel out.

The Kelowna Rockets have acquired forward Reid Gardiner from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a 5th round pick, a conditional 1st round pick, and a conditional 5th round pick.

Gardiner was playing for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the A.H.L. after playing the previous four seasons with the Raiders.

The trade was the third of the day for the Rockets after they dealt Jordan Borstmayer to the Vancouver Giants and Riley Stadel to the Edmonton Oil Kings earlier in the afternoon.

“”We had an opportunity to acquire one of the leagues best scorers over the last few seasons. He has been playing in the A.H.L. but will be coming to Kelowna to play for the Rockets. He’s excited about the opportunity to play for a competitive team with high end teammates and with his brother Erik,” Said Bruce Hamilton, General Manager of the Rockets. “For us he brings something we’ve been missing in that he’s a pure shooter. We’re in arguably the toughest division in the W.H.L. so he adds more depth to our roster. It was a big price to pay but we feel we owe it to our fans to compete again this year.”

Gardiner currently has 3 goals and 3 assists in 26 games with the A.H.L. club. In 262 career games with the Raiders, Gardiner had 106 goals and 114 assists for 220 points.

Gardiner is expected to be in the Rockets line up on Saturday when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place.

wow that's an impressive acquisition by Kelowna.

Im still waiting for Seattle to pull off something big. This is their final season with Barzal, Gropp, Kolesar, Bear, Eansor, True, Toth and possibly others... I realize they really haven't spent much of the season with a full lineup due to Barzal in NHL/WJC and injuries, so maybe Farwell feels they are good enough to win. Plus, Farwell isn't one to give up youth for a few months of a player, but IMO he may have to this season. I don't think Seattle will be in this situation for quite a while after this year

I am just more impressed that ownership in Kelowna are willing to be competitive every year. I have been a season ticket holder from when they arrived as well as the Wings when they left for Spokane - to become the Chiefs - and this is (obviously bias) but the best run organization in the WHL.

I'd agree with that, even in their down years they manage to stay competitive and carry a winning environment in to the next season. the great drafting allows them to make big acquisitions each year like Morrissey, draisatl and now Gardiner. its been frustrating as a blazers fan but it makes for good hockey in the interior.

It must be frustrating being a Blazers fan. They were always so good, year after year, most notably when they were the Oilers and then new ownership took over. I dread the day Bruce Hamilton decides to sell the Rockets and Lorne Frey (the head scout) retirers. I think since the Rockets came to Kelowna we have only missed the playoffs 1 time? maybe 2? and even in the 'bad' years have still been decent.

Curious if the Hurricanes will make a splash. They really need to shore up their defensive game.

Another Rocket move

The Kelowna Rockets have acquired 19-year-old forward Carsen Twarynski and a conditional third round pick from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for 18-year-old forward Jake Kryski.

The trade came just two days after the Rockets acquired high profile sniper Reid Gardiner in a trade with the Prince Albert Raiders.

“We felt we needed to add a big physical forward and we’re getting that in Carsen. A power forward is something we were lacking,” said Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton. “Jake Kryski is the player that Calgary wanted in return so that’s the price we had to pay.”

Kryski was acquired from Kamloops prior to the start of this season. In his short stint with the Rockets he tallied 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points along with 43 PIMS in 37 games.

The 6-foot-2 200 lb. power forward Twarynski has 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points along with 42 PIMs in 36 games with the Hitmen this season. He played a total of 160 games for the Hitmen amassing 35 goals and 51 assists for 86 career WHL points.

Twarynski was taken 82nd overall in the 2016 NHL entry draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Rockets will be awarded a third round draft pick if Twarynski does not return to the Rockets from NHL/AHL camps next season as a 20-year-old overage player.

Twarynski is expected to be in a Rockets uniform on Wednesday when they visit the Victoria Royals.

Fans will be able to see Twarynski in action at Prospera Place on January 18th when the Rockets host the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Curious if the Hurricanes will make a splash. They really need to shore up their defensive game.

And the Hurricanes have made two significant trades:

1: The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday that they have traded overage forward Ryley Lindgren and a sixth round draft pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for prospect Carson Dyck and a third round pick in 2018.

2: The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday they have acquired overage forwards Matt Alfaro, Zak Zborosky and a sixth round draft pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft in exchange for forwards Colton Kroeker, Brett Davis, a second and a fourth round draft pick.

Still no sign of defensive help but damn, Wong/Estephan/Bellerive/Babenko/Zborosky/Alfaro is ALOT of fire power.

Not surprised the Rockets moved Kryski. He was on the 4th line and had very limited ice time against the Blazers on Saturday. Pretty solid point production (13+16=29 in 37 games) but didn't live up to expectations elsewhere for the coaching staff.

Excited to see Twarynski in the lineup, just what the doctor ordered for the Rockets with some size up front. Forward group looks pretty formidable now. Should be excellent competition in the BC Division heading into playoffs!

Got that right - the BC Division is crazy this year.

Kelowna has been pretty active. Are their moves more for the future? Traded a couple players for picks, or similar deals.
