I have a feeling Puljujarvi might not be listed. Really depends on when the vote is done, but he was in the NHL most of the year.

Kudos for the effort. Typically THN starts polling their scouts right around now and they typically make guys who happen to be in the NHL ineligible for the ranking. So somebody like Timo Meier might not end up on their list, and possibly other guys like Theodore/Perlini.

I'd probably have Speers a bit lower, albeit the THN list always seems to have a recency bias towards players who participated in the WJC. I haven't kept a close eye on Ivan Barbashev, but he seems to be doing well in the AHL.

Mitchell Stephens isn't a Leafs draft pick, I wish though.

I think I would have Keller as #1, but I'm higher on him than most
I'd have Keller behind Puljujarvi. The thing about this list its basically predicting where NHL scouts will have them. Keller seems to be a bit divisive among them. I'd say its likely they still have Dubois ahead of him, not that I would agree with it.

After a bit of a disappointing WJC, I don't think NHL types will have Dylan Strome at three.

Elliotte Friedman had this blip in his column today: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-avalanche-coyotes-setting-high-prices-trade-talks/

After the world juniors are over, I reached out to four or five scouts/execs and asked if anyone shot up or down based on their performance. One of them hopped up on the soapbox before agreeing to the request. “From a scouting perspective, this is an overrated tournament,†he said. “You get a two-week snapshot, and the media play it up. No team is making its decision solely based on this. You watch a player for two years, get your full picture. Sometimes I feel terribly for kids who shine here, because in the public’s eyes, you can only go down.†He mentioned Justin Pogge as someone who suffered from this.

Perhaps that was more in the context of draft eligible guys, but he did mention Pogge by name. There is a WJC bias to it, but the question is still to rank the guys based on where they might be in five years rather than rank them based on how they did in a two week tournament.

Plus it's not like THN locks the scouts in a room and they make a list. This feels like the sort of year where there won't be a ton of consensus at the top. One year, THN had Alex Pietrangelo as the #1 guy but they revealed that half of the 20+ surveys didn't even have him ranked in the top 5. But the combined ranking left him as the highest guy.

It's a fun issue for bragging rights, but sometimes folks get a little too upset without realizing how inconsistent the voting might be.

They still will. Big centers who can score are rare. There are no other high-end ones not in the NHL that are already an NHL asset. White and Kunin are nice, but I don't think many see high-end 1st line centers in them. They probably have higher floors than Strome and will be good middle 6 centers, but out of the centers left Strome is still probably the best bet to be an impact #1C, especially with the scouting community divided on PLD's best position.

Pulju shouldn't be on that list because even though he's been demoted recently, he's been languishing as an NHLer all season...

Secondly, I always thought it was broken how THN ranked junior players and WJC stars over prospects who have been developing and ripening in the AHL. Yes, good job Clayton Keller but someone like Kasperi Kapanen's a much more polished prospect.

Maybe more polished right now, but .. does he have the same upside.

As a Sens fan I really like seeing Chabot and White up there (2,7) that high but I don't think they will be that high on the published list.

Gundstrom should likely be on that list.

Dahlen maybe near the end.

Rasmus Andersson should be on there. I'd have Scherbak over quite a few ahead of him.

Pretty solid list though, this type of stuff is hard to do.

Greenway needs to be higher. How is Bellows over 30 spots ahead? Never mind the WJC's, how about the college season?

This isn't an NHL ready list this is a projection based on upside and likelihood of getting there.

Shestyorkin should be in the list.
Rykov should be higher than Gusev, Svechnikov, Scherbak.
And I'm not sure why is Samsonov so much higher than Sorokin?

Sheshtyorkin was my #1 for the Rangers but there doesn't seem to be as much excitement for him as Samsonov and Sorokin.
Gusev is tearing up the KHL and should be in the NHL next year. Scherbak and Svechnikov are first round picks starting to pick up in the AHL. Rykov is a top 10 devils prospect but who really cared about him pre wjc?

Believe me, if you look at any THN list over the years, the longer a player is out of the draft and developing properly at a normal pace, their ranking drops. Meanwhile, a draft plus one hero lighting it up on Team Canada invariably is ranked top three. Cody Hodgson, Brayden Schenn anyone?

No argument with this point.

Simply Keller vs Kapanen .. I'd take Keller... Others are free to take Kapanen no issues.

Does Mark Jankowski still count as a prospect? If so he can on this list. Has been Stockton's best forward this year.

Parsons and Fox have been impressive but not sniffing this list yet.

What has sergachev or PLD done to be that high????

Kapanen at the rate he is scoring in the AHL and his age I would put him in Sergachev's spot.
