After the recent EHT stage my guess for a possible roster(based on realistic expectations and not my wishes).

without NHLers first(lines in no particular order):

Gusev - Shipachev - Dadonov
Kovalchuk - Datsyuk -
Mozyakin - Prokhorkin - Nichushkin
Golyshev - Tkachyov - Kaprizov
Polunin - Kraskovskiy - Korshkov
Okulov - Shalunov - Shumakov
Barabanov - Svetlakov - Telegin

A lot of depth there.

Antipin - Bereglazov
Ozhiganov - Denisov
Voynov - Belov
Lyubushkin - Gavrikov
Arzamastsev - Yarullin
Rykov - Kiselevich
Mironov

Sorokin, Shestyorkin

Possible NHL additions(as of mid-February):

Kucherov, Namestnikov, Kalinin, Grigorenko

Zaytsev, Provorov, Kalinin, Tryamkin, Zadorov

Vasilevsky

Anything can happen. STL is gaining ground after firing Hitch, MTL is slipping.

My personal rating of (virtually) available players by position:

C

Shipachev
Datsyuk
Tkachyov
Prokhorkin
Namestnikov
Shalunov
Kraskovskiy
Grigorenko
Kalinin
Svetlakov

A sad picture as always actually.

LW

Mozyakin
Gusev
Kovalchuk
Golyshev
Barabanov
Okulov
Polunin

RW

Kucherov
Kaprizov (no, this is not an overreaction)
Dadonov
Shumakov
Nichushkin
Telegin
Korshkov

D-men are hard to rate in this group. Too many close calls, but obviously a Provorov - Zadorov pairing would make the D really solid. I can only hope Znarok takes note of the NHL. Znarok probably won't take Tryamkin, but it would be pure fun to have Zadorov and Tryamkin on the D. The mean twins :D.

So in my perfect world the roster would look something like this:

Gusev - Shipachev - Dadonov
Kovalchuk - Datsyuk - Kucherov
Mozyakin - Prokhorkin - Kaprizov
Barabanov - Shalunov - Telegin

Tkachyov, Nichushkin, Namestnikov

Provorov - Zadorov
Denisov - Zaytsev
Voynov - Belov
Bereglazov - Antipin

Rykov, Tryamkin

Sorokin, Shestyorkin, Vasilevsky

If you are going to put Loko's youth line, might as well mention CSKA's youth line.

Shalunov and Shumakov have great chemistry together, I would put them in.

I think Kaprizov would work well with Dats and Kovy.

Dadonov-Shipachev-Gusev
Kovalchuk-Datsyuk-Kaprizov
Kucherov-Namestnikov-Mozyakin
Shumakov-Shalunov-Telegin

Provorov-Belov
Zaytsev-Bereglazov
Voynov-Mironov
Antipin-Zadorov

Shestyorkin
Vasilevskiy
Sorokin

I'd love to see a non-NHL roster or something close to it. It would be a good one, I think.

Also please don't invite Ovechkin. He looks finished to me.

Hope they do an under 25 KHL team. Even if Russia doesnt win, it would make the tournament more interesting, give the NHL guys a break. Great boost for these young guys careers too.

Won't happen at WC. Alsoo whats "a break" for the NHLers? It's the World Championship. It is their duty to represent the country there.

I always like watching Russia at this tournament. Usually they play skilled, high-speed, good hockey. If I had to point at a team that maybe doesn't always win at the worlds, but excites me, it's Russia. Of course after Canada ;) Then Finland usually plays fast and physical hockey, and it's always interesting to me watching how well does the US team full of "no names".

Ovechkin must increasingly be viewed as a small rink player. He hasn't really had much impact on the NT since 2008, which was his best performance.

2008, 2012 and 2014 WC along with the 2006 Olympics were his best performances at the pro level.

Ah 2008.

Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin had beautiful chemistry.

Threw away two Olympics to the Ovechkin-Malkin combo

When you remember his prime and look at him now.

It looks like Flyers are off the playoffs, so we can get Provorov. Toronto is in, so not sure about Zaitsev. Tampa is in question, so it's hard to say anything about Kucherov and Vasilevsky.

I hope, Tryamkin will be invited. It looks like Zadorov is out. Not sure, I'd like to get Ovi and Kuzya, when they will out after the 1st round, but Orlov can be helpful.

Thank you, that's why I was asking, I suspected Mironov was part of this training. Thoughts on his chances to make the team?

As far as Zadorov, he should be healthy by May but I don't know the interest level in considering him.

It's hard to say. There are good defensemen on SKA and Magnitogorsk, there are NHLers, and it's just 7 or 8 spots on the team. Mironov is a good defensive defender, but if Toronto doesn't advance past the 1st round, we will add Zaitsev. And Tryamkin with his size can be very useful. I still think he has chances, he's a very good player.

Yes its there "duty" but if I am coach I know 100% Kucherov would be on Olympic team, so why not let him rest (most guys want rest, some admit it, some wont) Give to a guy who is hungrier to be there like small Tkachev who played 20 less games and is well rested. The result might be better - use guys who have bigger incentive and motivation to be at the tournament. Guy like Ovechkin or Kucherov have nothing to gain at the tournament IMO.

You do realize Tkachyov is a center and Kucherov a winger?

The problem with you people is you really CAN think there is nothing to gain in a World Championship.
