Wrong score, it was 2-0 to Austria. Both goals in the 3rd period 1 was an empty netter

Oops, thank you. I wonder which match I read about on the federation's website then.
Note to myself, check the dates when you read a post on the internet

What happened to Scandella?
Did he retire from the NT or is he injured? I still think he's the best goalscorer that Italy has.
And Ramoser? Still the knee problem?

Austria played Italy twice, won 2-0 and 6-5, both terrible games for us but Italy's not too bad either. Morini, Bernard and Insam are their go to guys and Larkin is a solid D. Italy will be chin deep in this tournament but who knows, anything can happen.

Yeah, the "new generation" is growing well, but the team is still at the beginning of the rebuilding process, at the moment this is by far the weakest team of the tournament. Already the promotion last year was quite unexpected by me.
Even though I watched the olympic qualification matches here and I was quite impressed by the level of effort and the grit. Very fast team but also very small

Oops, I watched the full games on FISG youtube and the only one vs Austria I saw was the 2-0 game. Thanks for the correction.

Yeah, the "new generation" is growing well

Are we sure about it?
There is some undeniable process, but have a look at those players: the Bernards, Larkin, Gander, Kostner, we somewhat keep on thinking they are young but they are all already 26-27-28, hardly they'll really become better.
The younger ones, as Morini, Glira, Vallini, I don't think it's enough to keep the Blue Team long-term in the elite division.

I don't think so either.
So far I just hope they are enough to keep being a credible "elevator" team, because the level of the Div 1 is increasing. South Korea, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Kazakhstan, Slovenia all have a reasonable shot in getting promoted when they are down, division 1 is not goin to be a routine business anymore.
So, at the moment, I just hope that the new generation is enough not to lose ground on these teams without having to rely too much on imports.
Not getting relegated this year would require a miracle or two, and next year Div 1 is going to be very hard since Korea is most likely "stealing" the promotion spot from a big team, whether that is Austria or Kazakhstan.

So, yeah, at the moment the goal for Italy is to get at the same level it was when the roster was packed with imports.

Great to see Armin Helfer still be on team Italy at his age. Because Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet had mistakenly listed him as player from the "Anaheim Ducks"
several years ago, I had to check up who he was and always had a soft spot for him since.

Is Plastino injured or is there some other reason he's not in the team?

Yes, he is one of the many injured players.
Mainly Plastino, Trivellato, Ramoser and Gellert would have been lock if healthy.
Too bad, Plastino is probably one of the best producer of the team, even if he is a defender. It would have been good to have him.
At least Scandella finally made it. I just wish he could bring along his brother
