HFMontreal: Built For the Playoffs

Welcome to the greatest time of the year! As you’re stocking your fridge with beer and your medicine cabinet with Xanax, please read through the rules and expectations for the playoffs. Hopefully, this will help you navigate the boards infraction-free, and remain an active part of the discussions.

Our Board:

Same rules apply as always. No personal insults, no ‘hater’ and ‘defender’ memes, no defining who is and isn’t a fan. It’s simple: If your goal is to take a shot at someone, chances are it won’t fly. Take a breath, delete the nasty part and start again. Discuss the subject, avoid discussing the person. Keep it about hockey and you won’t have to worry about infractions, or being thread-banned for the playoffs.

Rival fans are allowed to post on our board, but we have very limited tolerance during a heated playoff series. Friendly posts and honest questions by outside fans are fine. But our board is not the place for rival fans to express their opinions and debate the quality of our team. That’s trolling. If a rival fan is here to stir crap, report them. Replying to their post accomplishes nothing; it just means mods have to delete the rival’s post along with yours. Thanks in advance for not increasing our workload.

Stanley Cup Playoff Board:

It’s an even playing field out there on the main board, so expect people to poke, tease, and insult our team. As long as they don’t cross the line with anything offensive or personal, it’s fair game. Don’t launch a personal attack because you dislike a hockey opinion (no matter how wrong!). Same drill as on our board: If a post gets personal or crosses a line, report it. Otherwise, disagree politely and on-point.

One important point: Wishing injury on a player is not allowed. Anyone wishing injury on a Habs player should be reported; likewise you’ll be reported for wishing injury on one of their players. And by the way, the Kreider thing was amusing the first 2,144 times, but is starting to wear thin. We’re all Habs fans, we feel the same way, but we don’t have to recycle old crap ad nauseam.

Rival Boards:

Easy answer: Avoid them. If you really want to post on a rival board, be mindful of your tone and timing. Friendly and complimentary posts are usually fine. Debates are not. Insults will get you an infraction. No fan wants to see rivals hopping up and down on their board after a tough loss, so avoid posting on the other board after a Habs win. Like rivals posting on our board, tolerance is limited at the best of times. They certainly don’t want to see us at the worst of times.

Deletions/Warnings/Infractions/Thread Bans:

Should you receive a Warning or Infraction, you’ll be notified by PM along with an explanation. Consider them a wake-up call to dial down the intensity. A Thread-ban means you’ve already been warned/infracted, but continue to be disruptive, and a mod has decided the thread is better off without you.

If your post is deleted with no other action, it may be because you were off-topic, replied to someone else’s deleted post, or posted something questionable. If you’re unsure why a post was deleted, contact a moderator. There’s usually a good reason. That said, we’re not perfect. If you believe a mistake was made, let us know politely and we’ll review the action.

Have a blast and let the games begin!
