Maltsev add Jacobs.

I still find the poll players a fairly interesting bunch, but very hard to decipher.

The add's are meh.

Yeah this is the really hard part now.

I'm likely going to do a multi-choice poll where everyone picks 5 to determine 21-25. Leave it open for a few days so we can get a lot of votes and then just rank them by who gets the most votes.

With the injection of talent we had in this year's draft, plus only having a decent season, I can see why Maltsev may have fallen this far relative to last year's poll. But I feel like this is a good spot for him. Still have hopes he can make the jump to the NHL but it'll be hard as a left winger. Studenic, Davies and Seney are other guys I'd consider.

I know the Devils haven't had Russian prospects in a long time, but Maltsev's year really wasn't 'okay' - he scored 2 goals in the Russian AHL in 34 games. We'll see if he can bounce back next year and maybe get into the KHL for a few games, but he's behind the curve.

He also had 13 assists, and 3 goals/2 assists in 11 playoff games with that team. For a 19 year old that's not the worst. And I mean it's not like we're early in these polls, if he went now he would have dropped 6 spots compared to last year.

In a league that is ranked very low globally I believe.

It's pretty bad. We're talking about the Russian AHL here, most Russian future NHLers are at least splitting time in the KHL by the time they're D+1 years old, but Maltsev went back to the MHL. Let's see if he gets picked for the WJCs this year. On his current trajectory, Maltsev would only be earning an ELC if they wanted a Russian guy to go over the same year Rykov does.

I voted for Davies who is 15 months older than Maltsev but he had a very good freshman season at Northeastern.

I don't know guys, I still think Maltsev had a great season and definitely not a bad one. 0.5 ppg in VHL is very good for someone his age (not sure if any of his peers did better). Of course, it still leaves wanting more, but, for example, Bratt scored almost the same in a similar league and noone is complaining. Also Maltsev is gonna be a Top6 Russia NT center (likely second line, but first line is not out of the question too) unless something unexpected happens, so that's also kind of telling.

Edit: I meant, Top6 center for the coming WJC, of course.

I don't particularly like where Bratt was ranked on this either, but I get why people ranked him where they did - the Devils signed him and he impressed some people at development camp.

I'm not opposing Maltsev's or Bratt's ranking, but the whole "Maltsev had a bad season" thing looks so absurd to me and this is what I'm strongly opposing.
