Todd Nelson

Huge props to Todd Nelson! Great coach and he deserves another shot at coaching in the NHL!

:handclap:

according to the Press in Grand Rapids, he has had history there but the shakeup with the Oilers in transition on both levels, ie the Barons and part of that shift to Bakersfield the Griffins job opened up for him, also, as a result of Detroit's promotion of Blashill when Babcock bolted to TML....

IT'S HIS 6TH Championship, but 1st as a head coach in the AHL, Remember when both Todd and his brother Jeff arrived in Portland in 1994, and then TN was also with Chicago in '08 AS an assistant.

When Todd Nelson coached at OKC, Edmonton fired their coach and Nelson became head coach for the remainder of the season. Oilers were deciding whether to retain Nelson as their permanent head coach for the next season. Red Wings wanted Nelson to coach Grand Rapids, but the Oilers at first would not give the Wings permission to interview him as they were at the time considering Nelson to become their head coach. But when the San Jose Sharks got rid of Todd McLellan, the Oilers jumped on him and hired McLellan as the new coach and later gave the Wings permission to interview Nelson for the Griffins head coaching position and within a couple of days, the Wings & Griffins made their announcement and the rest is history.

Nelson lives in West Michigan and has history as a player in the IHL/UHL, plus coached in the UHL and won a couple of titles in Muskegon. Nelson was hired in Grand Rapids before Bakersfield was even picked as the new Oilers AHL affiliate.
