Against the super strong teams, we usually we get a 3-1 series lead and then we choke it away. The Bruins upset is an exception.

but outside of the bruins/rangers season what series were we not the clear favorites? pitt isnt really one since they were basically equal

In 2015 against the Rangers. They had won the President's Trophy, we got a 3-1 lead in the series and were 100 seconds away from advancing to the ECF, until the Rangers tied it and won game 5 in OT. The rest is history.

We usually finish at the top of the standings so we're rarely the underdog. Either way, I wouldn't count on us beating a top team like Tampa this year.

Tampa with Vasilevski in net doesn't sound scary at all. He has good stretches but most of the time he's a bottom-half starter in this league.

I don't see this team beating the Penguins in a Playoff series again, though. Let's hope they somehow miss the Playoffs.

Playoff hockey is a different style then regular season. Hockey is streaky. Certain teams match up better against others. All that makes the seeding in the NHL much less relevant than say the NBA or NFL. If anyone should understand that it should be us. Home ice is nice, besides that who knows.

Vasya is arguably the Vezina favorite right now.

I'm not worried about anyone except for the Pens. Although playing them as an underdog wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Losing Bonino and Cullen has really weakened their bottom 6.

That said, they are the team that owns us, so...yeah.

Vasilevskiy is a very good goalie. When Bishop went down with an injury in the series against the Penguins, he almost took the Lightning to the SCF again. Tampa missing the playoffs last year was a fluke.

Coyotes certainly not taking any chances with their tanking. No regulation win in their first 20 games.

Opting for Vrana in 2014 rather than Dylan Larkin, Oh boy! Larkin appears to now be the 2C on the Red Wings and had quite a game last night. Listening to XM on the way in this morning and they are making comparisons of him as a younger version of Toews.
