I've been away from HF for a little bit, so I'm glad I came back to this, because I was just coming back to post -- per the AHL Transactions page --

D Maxime Fortunus has been signed to his third consecutive PTO of the season with the Springfield Thunderbirds (1st: 11-14-2017, 2nd: 01-15-2018, 3rd: 03-18-2018).

Same with F Tony Turgeon (who is still currently serving his 20-game suspension for violating the leagues' performance-enhancing substances program and isn't eligible to return until 04/06) has also been signed to his third consecutive PTO of the season with the Springfield "We Don't Hand Out AHL SPC's" Thunderbirds (1st: 11-10-2017, 2nd: 01-01-2018, 3rd: 03-10-2018).

Sound Tigers Agree To Terms with MacKinnon
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced today defenseman Ryan MacKinnon has agreed to terms on an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of this season and 2018-19. He has also been recalled from the Worcester Railers H.C. of the ECHL.

MacKinnon, 23, played nine games with the Railers this season following a three-year career at the University of Prince Edward Island. He recorded nine points (two goals, seven assists) and a plus-five rating with Worcester, including his first professional goal on Mar. 2 against the Wheeling Nailers. MacKinnon made his pro debut on Feb. 27 against the Brampton Beast.

A native of Summerside, P.E.I., MacKinnon collected 48 points (12 goals, 36 assists) and 52 penalty minutes in 82 collegiate games from 2015-18. He was also named to the CIS (AUS) All-Rookie Team in 2015-16 and the First All-Star Team this season.

Prior to playing for the University of Prince Edward Island, MacKinnon spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and notched 107 points (20 goals, 87 assists) in 252 games between the Rimouski Oceanic and Charlottetown Islanders. The 6'0, 190-pound defenseman served as Rimouski's captain in 2013-14 and Charlottetown's captain in 2014-15, skating alongside New York Islanders forward Ross Johnston.

Maple Leafs Sign Mason Marchment To Entry Level Contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Mason Marchment to a two-year entry level contract.

Marchment, 23, has skated in 37 games for the Toronto Marlies this season, recording nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points, earning AHL Player of the Week honours for the week ending November 5, 2017. In 2016-17, he split his season between the Marlies and the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears after signing an AHL contract on April 8, 2016. In 49 career AHL games, he has 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists).

3 PTOs?.. So does Fortunus get any pay for a PTO? Or is it just like free food and rent?

Players are paid on a PTO, but it is less than the minimum for a regular AHL contract. I couldn't find any current information, but as of a few years ago the regular minimum was ~$42K, and the rate for a PTO was ~$33K (prorated per day). Contracted players have to pay for their own housing, PTO players are provided housing from the team, which is typically a hotel room. That is probably the justification for the lower salary.
edit -found the current rates on the PHPA site. $47,500 for an SCP and $37,500 for a PTO.

Syracuse Crunch - Olivier Archambault.
Was picked 1st overall in the QJMHL. Didn't develop as expected. Was in the Habs organisation (4th round no.108) for his entry-level contract... was not signed afterward.
22GP 9G 6 A 15pts with Syracuse AHL . not bad. He's 25 but I hope he can at least have a taste of the NHL one day.

As a 18-19 year-old he likely thought he was good enough to make the NHL based on his offensive skills alone but I guess he learned a thing or two about work ethic and dedication during his 4-year stint in the ECHL.

If he can maintain this 50-60 pts pace, he might even get a chance with the Lightning somewhere down the road next season.

Trevor Hamilton has been assigned to Toledo (ECHL) and played his first game last night due to the overload of d-men in GR. He will play for the Walleye for the rest of this season and in their playoff run.

The San Jose Barracuda continue to confuse me. According to the AHL Transactions page, they have signed F Matt Fonteyne to an AHL SPC, and have subsequently reassigned him back to the Everett Silvertips of the WHL where they are currently in the middle of their second-round playoff series.

The Barracuda did this earlier this year, signing F Evan Weinger from the Brandon Wheat Kings in early March, and again reassigning him back to the WHL. Similarly, the Wheat Kings are also in the middle of their second-round playoff series.

The only logical explanation I can fathom is that these are 2-year contracts, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see where these players turn up when camps open in September.
