Kase had games here and there where he was all over the ice and looked very dangerous. But the majority of games he wasn't that noticeable.

He was a rookie, those things happen. The fact that he made the jump to the NHL, from seemingly out of nowhere, and played as well as he did is encouraging to me. Let's see, how he keeps developing...

Kase has a nice motor and is one of those guys who the puck seems to follow around. Great offensive awareness and vision. He'll have to fight for a spot next year unfortunately but I really hope he stays on the team.

I think Kase is the heir apparent to Cogliano. Speedy undersized wing who is surprisingly good on the forecheck but has trouble finishing. I think he'd be a good fit on that line (if not this year, next).

JVR/Evander Kane/Neal are all reasonable options if the ducks are willing to play Rakell at Center. I wouldn't mind seeing the ducks take a flyer on one of those wings or taking a comparable winger from another capped team if the price is reasonable.

BTW - rumor has it the ducks have about $1M more cap space than is shown on the various websites. Every little bit helps particularly if a player like Duchene is in the picture.

The MB is toxic. I really can't take any more of the, "The Leafs would like some of the better players in the league from your team even though you have no interest in trading them. Here's what they are worth to the Leafs. Let's call it a deal and don't argue with me" threads. :shakehead

How about this one?

"We want your elite young players but we don't want to give up our elite young players. Any thoughts?"

I don't really see a Cogliano comparison in Kase. Cogliano plays a complimentary style game in the offensive zone, garnering most of his points by getting to the dirty areas. He uses his superb conditioning, speed, and defensive stick to play a big part in what is one of the most lethal forechecking lines in the NHL, and those things also allow him to be a great PKer. Doesn't have great hands. His shot isn't anything to marvel at and he's no playmaker, either. He gets around this with solid offensive positioning but he doesn't drive play in the offensive zone on his own. As I said, a complimentary player.

There are some similar attributes -- both play feisty and both are speedy, but that's where the comparison ends.

Kase is a playmaker. His most notable assets are his vision and passing ability; he also possesses a good set of wheels as well as solid puckhandling. He, like Cogliano, plays feisty and has no qualms about getting his hands dirty, but unlike Cogliano, he has neither the upper body strength nor the defensive stick to make himself a presence in that regard -- he is as a consequence weak along the boards and on the forecheck and loses too many puck battles for my liking. Still has a lot of filling out to do on his 6 foot frame. His shot needs a lot of work and his offensive positioning could use some refining. A lot of his deficiencies can be fixed by him simply adding strength -- hopefully this is something he works on over the offseason.

If we have a heir apparent to Cogliano in our system, it's Max Jones. He's fast, strong on the forecheck, and is good on the PK, and brings some more offensive upside to the position Cogliano occupies in trade for the level of conditioning and stamina Cogliano has, and I would also consider Cogliano the far superior "glue guy".

3c has to be dealt with. After Kessler's surgery we shouldn't count on him being his normal self right away.

Vermette as a 4c and specialist is very useful but he is no longer able to handle a bigger role and be productive when we need him

Only Toronto is allowed to have untouchable players. Do not dare suggest a player is unavailable barring them giving up one of their big three, or you will get a lecture about how their big three are the most valuable assets in NHL history.

agreed but what centers are available? Would love Kadri or Bennett but I don't think either is available.

I just noticed that Derek Grant has scored 0 goals in the NHL. That's almost impressive.

210 goals outside of the NHL
0 in it.

Wow!

Bozak?

1 year left on his deal.

I don't see there being a reasonable deal for Bozak. Don't get me wrong, I think he'd the perfect acquisition for our situation, but I just don't see them trading him for as long as they're in the playoff race.

As irritating as their fanbase is, I believe there's some truth to JVR being on the trade block. If they're ever going to pull a "Bobby Ryan" and get value for him, this would be the time to do it. The thought of JVR (or his eventual return) returning a top-4 defenseman is just ridiculous though.
