If you pick a guy on waivers he has to remain on your NHL roster. I am not sure what happens if you send him down though.

Re-entry waivers.

If you claim a player on waivers, he does not have to stay with the main roster.
However, if you want to send him down to your minor team, you have to put that player back on waivers.

At that point, the player goes on waivers normally, just like any other waived player.
Iff the original waiving team is the only club to put in a claim, they have the opportunity to send that player to the minors without going through waivers again.

So to use this proposal as an example:

OTT waives Taylor. 1 of 2 things can happen.
1) No claim - Sens can do what they want with him, including sending him to the minors, as by passing on him, every team in the League has said they don't want him for their NHL team.
2) A team, or teams, claims him and he joins the winning organization, after the claiming team pays a small fee (dependent on player age/experience, and not applied to the cap).

Let's say in this scenario, the Leafs did in fact claim him. Now they too have two options.
1) Keep him with the NHL club. He is their property and he is part of the team.
2) Waive him, and we restart the waiver process.

Now since Taylor has already been claimed on waivers, then there would actually be three scenarios to look at.
1) No claim - Leafs can do what they want with him, including sending him to the minors, as by passing on him, every team in the League (including OTT) has said they don't want him for their NHL team.
2) Multiple teams or a non-Ottawa team claims him and he joins their organization, after the claiming team pays a small fee (dependent on player age/experience, and not applied to the cap)
3) OTT claims him and no other team puts in a claim. Now, again, every team in the League has effectively said they don't want him for their NHL team (since TOR effectively changed their minds) and the Sens can do what they want with him, including sending him to the minors.

Judging by the group splits for Isles and waiver eligibility, it looks like Seth Hegelson, Kristers Gudlevskis, Connor Jones, and Christopher Gibson will be placed on waivers tomorrow.
