If we went by Calder rules Bigras wouldn't be on there either. HF guidelines have generally been 65 games or played season of 24th birthday.

Played pro or NHL season of 24th birthday? Because that's next year. Seems like it should be pro.

Bigras is still three years away from that.

Played the season of his 24th birthday. He will be playing it next year so he still counts. Basically anyone still 23 on October 15th (or you could say Sept 15th but we don't have anyone who falls in there anyway) is eligible. Bigras has played 31 games, he's ineligible for the Calder.

I just don't believe Grimaldi has much, if any, shot at the NHL club, any more than Siemens does. He's way down on my list because of it.

I'm glad Boikov won, going with Geertsen now because I'm hoping for some good progression from him this year in SA.

Not that I really care one way or the other, but IMO those rules could be tweaked a little bit. If you're 23, and you've played in two NHL seasons, and played in 20 games the season prior, that player doesn't really fit the spirit of the prospect label any more.

Going by the 65 NHL games rule, Bigras could very likely be disqualified for prospect status before Grimaldi will, but Grimaldi has 153 total pro games to Bigras 75.

Bigras is in pretty much the same position as far as NHL games played (has four more) but he's 21. Just feels like the line should be somewhere in between their cases somehow. Maybe in terms of age or total pro games played.

Just my opinion though.

Should he be considered a prospect any more at 23? He's not technically considered a rookie any more. He's got 6+ games in two NHL seasons.

He is as much of a prospect that Rendulic and Everberg were. IMO he is still on his ELC and can be demoted without waivers. Close enough for me. I think he should have already been on here. He will get NHL games this upcoming season with a chance to carve out a role.

23 is still a decent development age. Personally I could care less about pro games. If you are in the AHL and still in that development age range I would consider them a prospect. I don't know where that development age range stops, but 23 has got to be included IMO.

That's your opinion. IMO the only way grimaldi gets a sniff of the nhl is if the forwards are hit hard by injuries. He'll be a great ahler like agozzino but nothing more. Elson has a better chance of carving out a role as well

I disagree that Elson does. Not even close between them IMO.

Grimaldi will be the most purely skilled player in the AHL (yes, even more than Compher and Sislo). If the Avs get a couple injuries in the top 6 (very possible), he could play on one of those lines. Elson couldn't.

I don't think Grimaldi is a future NHL player, but he at least has as good of a chance as anybody left on this list, and if he does, it will be in a higher impact role.

I personally viewed Rendulic and Everberg the same way. I didn't really consider them "prospects" after their first season. Just felt a little too old, and with too much pro experience.

When they first came over they were 22 going on 23. Their second season they were 23 going on 24 like Grimaldi.

You have to make a cutoff somewhere. I just think it should be being closer to 23 than 24 that's all. Just how I personally view it, I'm not trying to make a push to change it or anything.

I was a bit disappointed in Geertsen this past year. I expected his offense to translate better. But he's still a very raw player and probably was always going to take a few years no matter what.

We'll see what happens this year.
