Now that the draft is over I thought it would be fun to post lists of which players we would have drafted for the Oilers picks. Hopefully the guys the Oilers picked turn out, but I know there is plenty of varied opinion on the draft eligible players. I'd like this to be a fun thread where people can share lists of the players they liked so let's try and keep it positive and not bash people for their opinions.

Obviously picking a different player at a given pick will change the whole outcome of the draft as it has a trickle down effect on who other teams pick. However let's assume it doesn't effect later picks who would you have picked for the Oilers?

Also, please try to be honest with your answers and don't use hindsight to skew your list. If you would have taken David Quenneville in the 3rd round, please list him in the 3rd round and not as a 7th rounder just because you can look back and see that he actually lasted to the 7th round in the real NHL draft.

Actual Oilers picks:

1. (#4) Jesse Puljujarvi - RW
2. (#32) Tyler Benson - C
3. (#63) Markus Niemelainen - D
4. (#84) Matthew Cairns - D
5. (#91) Filip Berglund - D
6. (#123) Dylan Wells - G
7. (#149) Graham McPhee - LW
8. (#153) Aapeli Rasanen - C
9. (#183) Vincent Desharnais - D

Your Picks:

1. (#4) Jesse Puljujarvi - RW(3)
2. (#32) Rasmus Asplund - C(22)
3. (#63) Adam Fox - D(37)
4. (#84) Jacob Moverare - D(33)
5. (#91) Jacob Cederholm - D(51)
6. (#123) Mikhail Berdin - G(47)
7. (#149) David Bernhardt - D(63)
8. (#153) Dmirtri Sokolov - C(65)
9. (#183)Dylan Coghlan - D(97)

My picks in bold, and my personal rankings in brackets behind pick. Outside of Desharnais, I really don't mind any of our picks. Don't understand the Desharnais pick whatsoever. He's big and and RHD. Other than that, what does he have that a guy like Dylan Coghlan doesn't? Here's to hoping that he proves me wrong, and for that matter, all of the picks. I wouldn't have drafted the same way, but in the end, I'm a fan of the team, and will be rooting for all these guys. Not really the "I told you so" kind of guy.

1. (#4) Jesse Puljujarvi
2. (#32) Alex DeBrincat
3. (#63) Cam Dineen

Stopped watching after this. Between day 1 and 2 I got my hopes up on DeBrincat and I'd had high hopes they'd get Dineen as early as #32. When they still didn't pick him up at 63 I was irrationally upset and walked away haha :)

I actually really like your picks. I'm not upset about them taking a flyer on Desharnais with the last pick, its a good time to gamble. What I wanted to say to you though is that it's disappointing that the rookie camp isn't being held in Edmonton again this year. Last year I went to all 3 days of it and was able to do a write up on every prospect in the camp. As such I had a good handle on what they were like throughout the year. This year they're doing it in Jasper again, so I won't be able to get that same sense of them. Here's to hoping they'll do it in Edmonton again the year after that.

Edit: I guess my point is that I won't really have a sense of what I think of them until I actually see them play. Because they put the rookie camp back in the mountains, they won't be until if/when they're in pro. I wish we could have the luxury that Toronto has and have our AHL team located right here in the city.

Anyone that is saying that they wouldn't have drafted Puujarvi at #4 is either lying or crazy. Now if CBJ picked him then there is a legit argument for any of Dubois, Tkachuk, Juolevi and Sergachev. At #32 the best options for skill were Benson or Debrincat. I loved most of the picks of this draft and think we ended up with 3 future NHL players.

Benson is legit. Former 1st overall WHL draft pick. I like DeBrincat but Benson has a great overall game, not just offense.

I'm not going to suggest alternative picks but will comment on our picks.

1. (#4) Jesse Puljujarvi - RW

Just really good fortune for us, a guy that will fit in perfectly with this team imo. can score or set up and has size. Excellent pick.

2. (#32) Tyler Benson - C

Some of my fears about this pick have been allayed by the great endorsements people who seem to know a lot about him but still some questions. I'm not that worried about the old 'injury prone' adage but the fact he was hurt so much makes it tough to evaluate how he progressed into junior. One thing I view as a negative that others think is a positive is 'local guy'. This team has overly favored oil kings/local guys for years. At least the guy has some skill which is far better than many of our other 2nd rounders historically.

3. (#63) Markus Niemelainen - D

Excellent pick, as with a few other people I had him on a list of guys to perhaps be picked in the 2nd round. His scouting report sounds to me like Marincin.

4. (#84) Matthew Cairns - D

Not sure about this pick, drafted from a lower league which always concerns me and it sounds like he is going to US college another worry for me.

5. (#91) Filip Berglund - D

I like this pick, more and more it seems guys who were not drafted bloom a year later Size, offensive talent and right shot, all things to like.

6. (#123) Dylan Wells - G

This on the outside looks like an awful pick and smacks of a guy getting drafted on his bantam draft standing. I would agree with others that it was probably our goalie coach that viewed the guy and figured something can be made out of him. I will say one thing, I think more goalies are totally screwed up than any other position by over coaching and teams trying to totally change a kids style to the NHL cookie cutter goalie factory.

7. (#149) Graham McPhee - LW

Not high on this guy at all but it's a later pick so they must see something.

8. (#153) Aapeli Rasanen - C

This guy sounds promising to me and how he id described reminds me of Lander.

9. (#183) Vincent Desharnais - D

He's big.

id do my thoughts all in one place too

1. (#4) Jesse Puljujarvi - RW- Obviously love the pick. Amazing

2. (#32) Tyler Benson - C- good pick although other good options here too. Glad it was a forward
3. (#63) Markus Niemelainen - D- IMO a really good pick. He was ranked as high as 20 in some mock drafts and in 30s by some agencies

4. (#84) Matthew Cairns - D- Meh to this pick. Was picked lower than rated so theres that. Not a reach atleast

5. (#91) Filip Berglund - D- I really like this pick. Cant have too many Swedish D

6. (#123) Dylan Wells - G- I hated this pick because of his stats. But some scouts are really high on him and he wasnt a reach pick, picked around where he was ranked

7. (#149) Graham McPhee - LW- Also not amzed with this pick. But again not a reach. Seems like an Ewanyk clone

8. (#153) Aapeli Rasanen - CI really like this pick. Scouting reports seem really good

9. (#183) Vincent Desharnais - D- 7th rounder, who cares. Not amazed but maybe another Paigin

Draft was a success IMO because we took no reaches and not any coke machines. Save for maybe our last pick. Cant honestly say id pick any other way. All these prospects are so hard to project. Just glad we picked people in ranges they were expected to go. Last year it ended up with Jones/Bear, years before Slepyshev/Khaira/Yakimov/Gustafsson/reider. Nothing anything amazing but solid picks with NHL futures
