Prospect Info: 2016 Annual Prospect Poll #8

Blue Steel! Not the best, but pretty good. Who's next?

This year's results:
Rank | Prospect | yearly change | overall change 1 | Theodore | +1 | +10 (since 2013)
2 | Ritchie | +1 | +2 (since 2014)
3 | Montour | +1 | +9 (since 2014)
4 | Larsson | +4 | +4 (since 2015)
5 | Jones |n/a|n/a
6 | Nattinen | +4 | +4 (since 2015)
7 | Steel |n/a|n/a

Each poll will be open for 48 hours. If it's not close after 24 hours, I'll call it. If it is, it'll go the full 48. In the event of a tie after 48 hours, a 24-hour runoff will be held. The winner will get the open spot; the loser will go back into the pool, not get the next-lowest rank. The poll will go up to #25. Players are in the poll on the basis of HF's prospect criteria. Essentially, skaters with less than 65 games before the season of their 24th birthday, or goalies with less than 45 games before the season of their 24th birthday, are considered prospects. There are some nuances with respect to older-signed players, which I believe only applies to Garret Metcalf this year.

Vote on players using whatever criteria you like. This isn't the readiness poll or the talent poll or the most-likely-to-be-best poll, it's just a survey of who we as Duck fans like.

Odd that Steel won, and there wasn't one post explaining why he received a vote.

Mr. Pettersson again for me. Hopefully we get to see him in NA next year.

I haven't seen him play at all, but I voted for Steel, mostly due to his draft status admittedly.

He does have a really intersting draft profile tho. Guy was slated to go in the middle of the 1st round at the beginning of the year. Had a underwhelming first half, but played much better in the second half according to some of the write ups I've seen. The sense I get is that the talent is real, he just didn't put it together last year for whatever reason. However, he played really well in the playoffs and for the Canada under 18 team.

Gates, Kase, Kossilla, Soy, Sörensen, Welinski… Can’t choose, so I’m gonna bow out.

It's a guessing game at this point. There are a lot of guys who could become something but most likely won't become anything. I just feel like many of the prospects left have similar potential and equal chance of succeeding. I went with Noesen because I think he's the closest one just slightly but he could end up being a career AHL player.

I actually forgot about Welinski, but i will still take 18yo Terry over 23 yo Welinski. Andy is much more ready as a pro, obviously, but i`m very intrigued for Troy`s potential

Not sure what issues people have with Steel. Strong-skating guy with plenty of hockey-IQ and PPG in his draft year to end up a late 1st rounder - there's a solid case for him over any of our prospects after #5.

The draft was seen as kind of weak past the first handful. Also the comparables and predicted ceilings for Steel are kind of low.

But high IQ, good skating, high motor are some of my favorite attributes for a prospect to have.

But I generally rate the new guys lower until they show they improve in draft+1.

I chose Steel because I don't see any other guys that easily stand out more than him. For me it was between he, Pettersson (who I chose in this one), and Noesen. I also think it means something for Murray and McNabb to use the biggest piece of the Freddie trade on Steel. I could see him being a bust, but no one left was for sure better IMO. There's arguments for a few, but injuries have limited Noesen and Sorensen.

Very much this.

I didn`t vote for him yet but i`m ok with him taking the last poll

If Sorensen stays healthy his upside is greater than anybody else left. I picked him because of that.

How so? Did you read his scouting report(s)? What didn't you like about it/them?

Nothing in particular. That's the thing. His byline could have read "generic low end first round pick." Plus, his comparables are pretty unexciting. I'm not making a comment on his ceiling or his likelihood of busting or anything else. I just find him uninteresting.

Yeah that's my reason for continuing to pick him as well. If he's healthy he could be an immediate top 9 forward for us. Might not be a bad idea to try guys like Sorenson and Kossila with Rakell in camp to see if there's any chemistry there.
