Based on one mistake. Solid analysis there. Certainly played better than Hicketts, Dermott, or Chabot... aka the guys being given his icetime.

Apart from that one turnover he played very well in his pathetic amount of icetime. But nah, better keep riding inferior players. Lowry would never bench Hicketts.

I think you are being slightly biased lol Sanheim isn't the only defensemen on this team and he didn't do anything what so ever to take a spot from the players ahead of him on the depth chart. That is a fact.

Didn't catch the game but would the additions of Fabbri and McCann have made a difference?

Marner, Point, and Virtanen need to step it up if Canada is going to win Gold. They are supposed to be some of Canada's best players and none of them had good games.

Barzal was up and down, but there were more positives than negatives. Strome was excellent, Gauthier had a strong game with some excellent shifts.

Idk how you guys are blaming this one on goaltending. The first he had no chance on. The second was a double screen which he didn't see at all, and the last two were deflected by Canadian players.

Werenski's goal and the last goal were 100% on the goalie. Those pucks just cannot get through.

Even though the first was pretty much unstoppable given the quality of the shot, you could still argue it was poor goaltending as he was very slow to get across.

That's no 19 year old

Maybe it wasn't Grigorenko's mom that changed his age, it was Ekblad's

Flyers fans are excessively biased about Sanheim, there is no discussion to have with them about him. He barely got any minutes and he impressed nobody. Apparently that is everybody's fault but his

As a London season tic holder, first to admit Marner has to be better ( and will be )
Close game, Ned played great for USA, adjustments for both teams will be made.
Nothing on the 5min PP really hurt.
Looking forward to the next matchup come elimination time.

Canada lacks a star up front too. It's going to be interesting to see who steps up and breaks out, but there is no clear guy right now.

USA defense and goalie was very good, though. Their offense will roar against a weaker team.

Now their defense looks brutal. Not a single top player. It's so unnatural from Canada. Chychrun would be huge.

Hard for an offensive defensemen to "take a spot" when he's given scraps for icetime and not used offensively.

And this isn't bias, it's common sense. Even if we only look at offense, he's very clearly better than Hicketts, Dermott, and Chabot, yet all three were given infinitely more opportunities. It's just bad coaching.

I love how you keep saying that even though it's not true.

Everybody in this thread disagrees with you. Take your homer glasses off. Sanheim hasn't been given much ice time for a reason.

None of them outplayed him, unless we're strictly looking at icetime. None of them did anything or validate their icetime or their spots in the lineup. There isn't a single Canada defensemen that can honestly say they had a good game.

Dermott looked better today

Good:
Strome
Barzal
Virtanen
Hickey
Hicketts
Chabot

Expected more:
Point
Crouse
Fleury

Really need to step up:
Marner
Sanheim
Fleury
Stephens

Everyone else kind of blended in IMO. I had very low expectations for McDonald but really he wasnt bad at all. Youd like him to get across on that first goal, and squeeze the pads on that last one, but nobody expeted him to be a great goalie. If he can play like this or slightly better one more game we should get the win and can move on to Blackwood. If Lowry wants to ride McDonald then yes, he belongs in the really needs to step up category.

Ill say this -- I didnt really like how Lowry managed the lines.

Konecny and Crouse got a crap ton of time against Matthews in the first period, and their usage definitely dropped as the game went on. Dont know why.

There was a stretch in the mid 2nd period where Strome had 1 shift in 10 minutes, and Marner none, despite no penalties. While you can justify a sit down for Marner, you certainly couldnt for Strome

I think its become absolutely fair to say that when a the 13th forward is glued to the bench, and you put him out for a late penalty kill... it usually doesnt work out

And why is Konecny on a checking line when he's looked so good in every game of the selection camp (going back to the summer) when playing with skilled players?

He's not slow he needs some rink time to settle in and get the jitters out. These kids playing some of the biggest hockey they have ever played and have some nerves.
He looked slow compared to everyone else on the ice. I know they have some nerves but right now Sanheim isn't the best defender, I like him more than McKeown but otherwise everyone is playing pretty well back there.

Obviously, but the stars come out in the big games when it matters most. Padding stats against the weak teams is meaningless when the end goal is to win the Gold. Not seeing an alpha dog who will emerge amongst this group.

Virtanen was neither good or bad, but we need more from him. He has to make smarter and quicker decisions with the puck

Dermott did nothing noteworthy. Didn't have a good game.

Than Sanheim was abysmal if you think Dermott didn't have a good game. Dermott played better, sanheim was meh. Not saying he isnt good but he like many of the team didn't play to their abilities
