Inappropriate or not I still don't see them moving away from a marquee player they went all out to get. It might not be the right decision but the alternative would be a bit embarrassing not only for MSL but the Rangers organization and the upper management decision makers--namely Sather and Gorton.

With Buchnevich and Duclair waiting in the weeds along with the seeming emergence of JT Miller--it will make IMO moving Zuccarello or allowing him to leave as a UFA this summer more palatable to them than the embarrassment of dumping MSL. Factor in Zuccarello not providing the expected offense--and he is being outpointed by St. Louis 35-23.

The thing is with Stepan heading towards a big payday we were always going to be losing at least one major player some time this year or over the summer. I figured it might be Staal. I was wrong. The next most likely to me is Zuccarello.

First, I don't see anything embarrassing to either MSL or the NYR if they let him walk this summer. Both gained at least one trip to the SCF and who knows what else this year. When the Rangers signed him - it was a business decision and so should be whether to let him go or re-sign (including at what price).

Then I agree with you that there are other factors at play here. With the uyts likely taking spots in top 9 the decision of Hagelin becoming too expensive as a 4th liner should be considered. MSL could be more useful for another season or two as a veteran 3rd liner with a scoring touch and a PP specialist. This is how I can justify resigning MSL over Hagelin. Disagreeing with you re Zuke - I think he will be more of a priority and resigned before these two.

Hagelin isn't a 4th liner though. He's a very good third liner and penalty killer. His speed drives the Rangers forecheck whenever he's on the ice. That speed can put other teams back on their heels. The other thing with him--is he's an RFA and he won't cost as much a Zuccarello. Hagelin at $2.25 mil now--I could see a new contract for him at anywhere between $2.6 and $3 mil--not necessarily a contract that breaks the bank. Zucc already is getting $3.5--a kind of a discount gift he gave the Rangers. If he becomes a free agent in July I can easily see him getting a $5 mil per year contract. I could see him getting more really. For the Rangers to sign him between now and then I'd estimate the Rangers would have to pony up over $4 mil per and probably for at least 3 years but it might be a lot closer to $4.5 for four years or more. There's a significant difference of what Hagelin and Zuccarello are going to get and it argues more for keeping Hagelin.

As for St. Louis--can't see him getting more than two years and that's another difference and I'd expect he'd make in the same $ range as Zuccarello and as pointed out St. Louis (though he's taken a step back) is out producing Mats. Then again St. Louis might be okay at $4 or $4.5 mil for that.

Christian Thomas and Michael St. Croix are both undersized fowards - ranging from 5'9" to 5'11". Tambellini is 6'3" and will probably be 200+ lbs when/if he makes the NHL.

Now, I haven't watched a lot of him, but having size is a pretty big deal - specially at center.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
Tambellini is doing exactly what you want a player like him to do. Score consistently and improve the other areas of his play. He went from being a PP specialist to a very productive ES player. From what people have said, his two-way game is improving, which will make him a viable option at center as a pro. I've only caught a handful of Hitmen games this season, but in each one he was noticeable on both sides of the puck and was getting to the dirty areas he used to avoid.

I suppose it would be nice if he was scoring 2 points per game, but noticeable improvement in other areas is just as important, if not more so.

Thanks. This is what I was looking for.

Daniel Walcott, D, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL) – Walcott recorded a QMJHL single-game career-high three assists and tied a single-game career-high with three points in Blainville-Boisbriand’s 8-3 victory on Jan. 16 vs. Moncton. He has registered 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in his last 14 games.

The Armada captain is tied for sixth among QMJHL defensemen in assists (22) since he made his season debut on Oct. 10. Walcott ranks third on Blainville-Boisbriand in assists and ranks fourth in points (25) and plus/minus rating (plus-12).

Blainville-Boisbriand has posted a 25-6-1-3 record in 35 games with Walcott in the lineup this season (the team is 2-6-0-1 when he is not in the lineup).

Mackenzie Skapski stopped all 19 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season in Hartford’s 3-0 victory on Jan. 17. The 20-year-old has posted a 5-3-2 record, along with a 2.27 GAA, a .920 SV%, and 1 SO in his last 10 appearance

Halverson won both games he started this past week. He stopped 31 of 33 shots he faced in a 3-2 victory over Guelph on Jan. 16. Halverson has not registered a regulation lost in his last 17 appearances, posting a 14-0-0-2 record, along with a 2.35 GAA, a .922 SV%, and 1 SO over the span.

Buchnevich tallied an assist on Jan. 18 at SKA. The 19-year-old has recorded 22 points this season (10 goals, 12 assists), which is tied for the fourth-most points a player 20 years old or younger has recorded in one season since the league began in 2008-09.

Shesterkin stopped 30 of 32 shots he faced through regulation and overtime in a 3-2 shootout loss against Dinamo Riga on Jan. 15. Shesterkin has posted a 2-0-1 record, along with a 2.45 GAA and a .908 SV% in three KHL appearances in 2014-15.

Land of no calls..
meh. hes still got powerful lower body and a good amount of strength on the ice. 195 pounds really isnt a lot for someone as big as malkin is.

It's not, and it would probably be fine for Tambellini as well. I just think it's unrealistic to project the kid as a 200+ pounder when he's not built that way, and as Malkin has shown, you can be strong as hell on the puck when you're 6'3 and under 200.

No points, one shot for Buchnevich in Severstal's 2-1 win.

However, this happened:

Not sure what the "eh" is about. That's pretty damn good for a 19-year-old winger being asked to play center for the first time in arguably the second best men's league in the world.

I think it's beyond an argument that the KHL is right now the second best league in the world. It has far superior players to the AHL. Think of it this way: Chris Bourque is a superstar in the AHL, but he couldn't keep up at all in the KHL. He's a small player and the KHL is a softer, so if anything, it should've been easier for him, but he had 3 points in 19 KHL games before returning to the AHL.

The KHL has plenty of NHL quality players, while the AHL has a few borderline guys.

Stumbled across this.

Quite the jump from having no one at all in the top 30.

What are your expectations on Tambellini??
He's having a great season, and was a clear target of the organization, as they selected him before Buchnevich and Duclair. Has interesting size and can play center, do you see NHL potential in him? He could be another great addition for the roster in the next years.

He is now third in the WHL in goals (29), tied for fourth in plus/minus rating (plus-27), tied for fifth in game-winning goals (five), and tied for 14th in points (52) this season.
