8m combined will not be enough. Cap rising and bad contracts on this team make it unlikely. Greening at 3 and Cowen at 3 makes hemsky worth 5 and michalek worth 4.

That is with a discount

Then I look at trade options, free agents and Prince/Puempel/Lazar

Trade Boro because: we need to get a better top 4 dman, Cowen isn't ready, Gryba and Wier are less dimensional, Phillips is likely un-tradeable and at the very least can be a good mentor

Try to get top 4 D. But I'm assuming we won't. So:

Ryan - Spezza - Hemsky
CMac - Turris - Stone
Hoff - DaCosta - Zib
Smith - JGP - Neil
Greening and Condra scratches

Methot - Karl
Cowen - Gryba
Wier - Ceci
Boro and Phillips extra.

This could be a good 4th line. I kind of want a Jarkko Ruutu type player to play with Smith and Neil. Don't know too much about Clifford other than he's got some grit. Can he kill penalties? A pest type who can play hard, physical, drop the gloves the odd time, kill penalties and score the odd goal would be great.

Almost no one has Greening in their line up. Let's face it, he's not going to be traded, bought out, or a healthy scratch. He's been great for Ottawa, especially in the playoffs, he's just had a bad year. I'm definetly not willing to give up on him. He's a smart guy and a hard worker, I count on him having a good off season and coming back next year better. If Hemsky is resigned and Michalek let go, don't be surprised to see a Greening- Spezza- Hemsky line, it could work

An upgrade on D would be nice. Moving Greening's cap hit would also be good.

In a perfect world we would sign an improvement over Phillips and let him be the scratch but I don't see us spending any money. Still a sketchy situation at D but solid at F and G.

Thats our same lineup pretty much, and Cowen vanished?

Boyle is just bad defensively. Not what the team needs. Ceci will be better than him by next year

Just a year or two to allow time for Cowen to find his top-4 game. It could be argued that Phillips is Robidas, but imo we need solid veteran leadership in the D-core to compliment the young developing kids. They were kind of hung out to dry this year.

If it's not Boyle, has to be someone else.

The D will be a year older, but I don't wanna go into next season hoping the young D step up again. We know how that went this year.

What if Ceci has a sophomore slump?

I would like to point out that almost all of these lineups will cost $62 million +
Does anyone here believe the Sens are going to spend $62 million on payroll next year given that a $56 million dollar payroll was already a couple million 'over budget' this year.

Hanzal + Yandle

Re-sign Hemsky

Ryan - Hanzal - Hemsky
Mcarthur - Turris - Stone
Hoffman - ZIbabejad - Lazar
Greening - Smith - Condra/Neil

Methot - Karlsson
Yandle - Gryba
Cowen - Phillips/Wier/Boro

- Karlsson would drive ES play for half the game and then Yandle the other half.

- Thee very good two-way centers and a good 4th line defensive center.

- Wings are full of puck possesion talent and speed for EK and Yandle to hit in transition.

Team would be deadly
