What is it about these kids shunning the WHL to go play college. Bertram, Cogliano, Toews, and now Turris. Take it to the bank Bertram would have been drafted higher than middle second round if he was playing in Vancouver with Brule.

What is it about these kids shunning the NCAA to go play CHL hockey? Kane, Mcrae, Gagner, and possibly Petrecki.

It's a two way streat, buddy.

Slightly off topic, but can anyone let me borrow a video copy of any Russia U18 game from this year. I missed out on the Canada Russia game due to inaccurate tv listings. You can PM or email me. Thanks.

Voracek was impressive at the U18's.

Not much mention of Logan Couture here.

Well, he's great offensively but what really amazes me is his defensive play and his soild PK skills. It's very rare that you see a 16 year old offensive dynamo that you can put out in the final minute with a one goal lead. I've heard the comparison to 67's grad Alyn McCauley and that, IMO, is a very fair comparison.

I can't wait to see Petrecki's progression this year. Kid definately has the possiblity of going #1 overall as he's going to be just as good a prospect as Erik Johnson is this year, IMO.
Will he be staying in USHL or playing with NTDP?

I wouldn't blame any1 going to College before junior hockey league. Just so few of even top talents makes it to NHL so having education can't be bad ever for these guys.

I don't think the McCauley comparison is a good one. Couture is well ahead of McCauley at the same age and has much better hands. McCauley might be a bit better skater at the same age though.

If you're looking for former 67's, I'd say Andrew Cassels is a better comparison. Elite playmaker with great offensive instincts. More offensive upside than McCauley to be sure. I think Couture could get 100 points next season, which should push solidy him in the top 10, perhaps top 5.

It took McCauley a lot longer to adapt to the OHL, although when he did, he was an elite junior scorer.

Couture really stepped it up last year.... He started getting more responsibility from Kilrea and took full advantage of it... people need to remember that he would have been the number 1 pick to Oshawa if Tavares didn't get the underage rule passed. I think Couture will go 35G 50A 85PTS while being a decent defensive player. I think he could go as high as 3 and as low as 10. Him, Sam Gagner, Torquato and Bryan Cameron were always the cream of the crop in Ontario for the 89 age group.

With all but Petrecki coming to London... I'm quite content with them shunning NCAA!
