Good lord, how many PowerPlay Points did Robbie have last season? seems like every clip, They were on the PP.

He's a powerplay specialist and pretty average at every other aspect of the game. I'll personally be shocked if he is a top 5 candidate for the Calder. I'm even willing to bet he won't make the Oilers out of camp.

Well I just had to add my teams player, I had to jump on the bandwagon of cheering for your own player. :sarcasm:

But the poop on him is that no he wont make the team next year, he needs 1 year in the minors. He has an attitude problem, needs to work on his skating but saying he is a powerplay specialist is a bit of a reach. But he has a wicked shot of NHL calibre according to Dale Hunter.

He scored 145 points in 57 games to lead the OHL, thats a lot of powerplay goals. He also should be a good shootout player.

He will be a top 5 in the Calder when he does finally get to the NHL. And he is no Malkin.

I'm surprised that not too many people mentioned Ladislav Smid.

He may be in tough to win the Calder given the competition (like Phaneuf this year), but the Oilers will give him every opportunity to succeed next season. I think he will be the best rookie defenseman next season.

Is Kopitar coming over for next season?

Toivonen. Malkin will get tons of PP points and not much else since Pittsburgh has bad wingers. Hannu will lead the renewed Bruins to the playoffs. Rookie goalie leading team to playoffs = automatic Calder candidate.

Tell that to Lundqvist:wave:

Dark Horse Homer vote: Lars Jonsson

An offensive defenseman, phenomenal skater, signed, and fully developed in the Swedish league. Could bust in Philly or make a serious run at the Calder.

I think he could be the surprise rookie of the year.

That said, Malkin takes it.

Not that I realistically think any of the three will win but Detroit should have three rookies this season that could surprise a few people. Howard could end up as Detroits starter and Hudler/ Filppula could end up on the top 2 lines with either Datsyuk or Zetterberg.

Eh, I think any defenseman is a long-shot. How many times has a defenseman won the Calder in the last 15 years? The only one I can think of is Leetch, but I suppose there might have been another one or two. Fact is, the award usually goes to a forward. When it goes to a defenseman, it goes to an offensive guy who puts up numbers. So forget Smid and forget Marc Staal (who probably won't make the team this year, but might). Those guys are not going to get the 40-50 points needed to merit serious contention because they don't bring that kind of offensive game.
