Make sure to watch out for Alex Bourret for the Thrashers, Not a lot of depth at RW, may get a chance to play on Kovalchuk's line.

I think Malkin will win it, but its hardly a lock. Pittsburgh's powerplay should rack up the points between Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar, Whitney, and whoever else they put out there.

I'm more concerned about the fact that its looking more and more possibly that Malkin is going to be centering a line with completely untested wingers. Pittsburgh right now has one proven top 6 winger, Colby Armstrong, who will be playing with Crosby.

According to Kaigorodov - he is staying with Metallurg next year.

From the mettallurg.ru site (using an English translator)... from what i can tell he may yet be in Ottawa .

"In spite of the unwillingness of the management Of "magnitki" to release for Aleksey kaygorodov ocean, 23- summer forvard nevertheless can prove to be in "Ottawa".
Last week "SS" with the reference in the Canadian OF THE MEDIA reported that "Ottawa" wants to see in itself kaygorodova. The general director Of "magnitki" gennadi velichkin and player himself then solidly stated that Aleksey will remain in Russia even as the minimum for yr. But everything proved to be so not simply.

As it became known, to Magnitogorsk specially for the negotiations with The the kaygorodovym arrived the chief of the skautskoy service of "Ottawa" of Swedish Anders Hedberg. After conversations with the hockey player and his agent the representative "senatorz" drew the conclusion that player himself is inclined to the departure for the ocean. But on the recent glass rod NKHL the general manager of "Ottawa" John makler was interested in one of the scouts of his club, it was capable Kaygorodov to play in one component with the leader of the "senators" by Daniel Al'fredssonom. And, after obtaining affirmative answer from the knowing Aleksey not by hearsay specialist, it remained is very contented.

Much in the question, where it will continue the career Of kaygorodov, will explain after Russia will be joined to the agreement between IIKHF and NKHL about the compensation for the departure of Europeans for the ocean, which was already ratified on the council FKHR"

Run the interview Kaigorodov gave after that came out through the translator. He basically denies all the rumours and states that he is definitely playing for Magnitigorsk next year.

As Malkin is likely leaving, it makes sense for him as well.

I dont need to , I trust what you say is true, I'm thinking nothing is a done deal and this is all posturing so Ottawa has a stronger commitment to bring him over and play him, most players want a one way contract etc, If I was one of the top players in the RSL I wouldnt want to come and prove myslef in the AHL..and Im sure Kaigorodov wouldnt want to either... so I dont think this is a dead issue yet.

Dark Horse Homer vote: Lars Jonsson

An offensive defenseman, phenomenal skater, signed, and fully developed in the Swedish league. Could bust in Philly or make a serious run at the Calder.

He'd be in Iowa for 2 reasons:

1) Edmonton and Montreal aren't renewing their deal for sharing the farm team. Milwaukee looks like the place that that deal will be switched to.

2) Schremp is American, so he'd be in Iowa with the rest of Edmonton's American prospects.

Will he be playing hockey in Iowa? Milwaukee is in Wisconsin.

Well, last year the Oilers split affiliation with Montreal and also had players on the Iowa Stars. All their American-born prospects played in Iowa (Visa considerations, I believe). Although if the Oilers are placing prospects in Milwaukee, I see no reason to believe Schremp is any more likely to be in Iowa than Wisconsin.

Were you actually SERIOUS?

Every year there is usually one defenseman that makes a run for the Calder. I honestly think that Barker will do just that this year. Especially if the hawks don`t get that powerplay quarterback they wanted.

Jimmy Howard has a shot. With Detroit possibly going with Osgood and Belfour as their one and two, and Howard earning the right to start a few games last season when Legace was injured, he has a chance of landing the starter job if he plays well in camp.

But Malkin will win of course. He's already really good defensively and looks to be capable of scoring a point per game at the NHL level.

The Caps will have a few rookiescoming up this year. Maybe they won't win, but they might at least look good. Mike Green, Tomas Fleischmann for example

Toivonen. Malkin will get tons of PP points and not much else since Pittsburgh has bad wingers. Hannu will lead the renewed Bruins to the playoffs. Rookie goalie leading team to playoffs = automatic Calder candidate.
