He was never really in the top grouping. was a bad pick from day 1 that some people based only on his draft position as a 1st rounder artificially inflated as a top prospect. The shiny new toy effect. I didn't think he would be as bad as he is, but shit happens, especially when you gift director of amateur scouting to your friends and don't actually bring in talent, lucky for us the Newy era did a decent enough job drafting that Nill was able to bring in some real talent through trades

Kind of disappointed with Heiskanen so far in the U20s. Obviously means little in the grand scheme but I was pumped to watch him.

He's playing a lot less flashy than he does in the Finnish Men's League. That might be due to having Valimaki as his D-partner, which would make him the stabilizer on the pair. Also, keep in mind he has not really had much experience playing in North American sized rinks, which can have a major effect. He's playing a very low risk game, but his defensive game has been extremely impressive. Just watch how many times he poke checks the puck off of opponents sticks or blocks passes into the slot. His defensive game and hockey IQ is already NHL quality, but what he brings to the NHL in terms of offensive capability will be very interesting and important in determining what type of a defense-man he will become.
