Where is Ruutu ??
And I Agree that Richards play well in CHL and Even had a Great WJC but what did he do to be draft Over Kastitsyn ?

I'm more wondering what Kastitsyn has done to be drafted ahead of Richards :p

I think it's interesting how many people are putting Pitkanen ahead of JBo.
Obviously it will be a long time before it's known which one is the better player. And the answer may never be settled. But this time last year it probably would have been something like 80% JBo, 20% Pitkanen.

Not a bad list Balej.

I am quite confident that most GM's consider Kovalchuk, Nash, Fleury and JBo to be the top 4 at this point in time. JBo is not that flashy but he is a sure fire star. I would rank the top 4 as:
1. Kovalchuk
2. JBo
3. Nash
4. Fleury
I am not sure what to say negatively about JBo. He will log 25 minutes of icetime per game over the next 15 years, play in almost every allstar game and he will probably win the odd Norris Trophy. Considering the fact that there is a premium on defensemen (especially young one), JBo has even more valuable than fans realize.
Pitkanen is going to be a great defenseman; however, to put in quite simply, Pitkanen does not have JBo's physical attributes (this slight difference means a lot to a players value), and I doubt there are many GM's who would take Pitkanen over JBo.
On these boards people often make the comment "once in a decade players."
I think it is defendable to say that JBo is a once in a decade defenseman.
Personally, I would be very tempted to take JBo over Kovalchuk.

What physical attributes do you think JBo has that Pitkanen doesn't?

Jbo's slightly bigger, but both have good size. Both skate very well. The differences I see between the two is Pitkanen is meaner to me and has more offensive skill but at times Pitkanen looks like he's floating and I've never noticed JBo do that.
But I've seen a lot more of Pitkanen then I have of JBo to be sure.

They've both made plenty of young Dmen mistakes and are anything but finished products right now.

To me, part of the appeal of JBo is that an earlier age he shined in the Jr's. Based off of NHL play, he hasn't lived up to hype yet. But realistically, that's to be expected. He could be the greatest Dman ever and have a rough year or two wont change that. Lidstrom took a few years to adjust too.

Nah, it just took him a few years to be noticed.

Well, really, I'm basing that off of what Bowman said recently when he was talking about Pitkanen and he brought up Lidstrom and adjusting to playing defenseively in the NHL.
Surely, looking back on the numbers they were great. But the games vastly different then it is now (scoring was way up in the early 90's compared to now), hard to tell how good he was defensively off those numbers, and I didn't have Center Ice back then so I can't say anything based off of my observations of Lidstrom early in his NHL career.

Actually, Lidstrom's rookie year he had 60 pts and was a +36 in 80 games, with only 22 PIMs. His second season wasn't quite as good (only 41 pts in 84 games). But, after that he has never scored less then 56 pts in a season and only finished a season once under +10 (00-01 he was +9, but had 71 pts). He was pretty much dominant from the beginning. No one really noticed though because of the obsession with hitting and his lack of huge hits.

Well, He played well for CSKA on the 4th line ( they don't even care about Young Player Developement ), but they sent him to CSKA-2 where he dominate the last game he score 1goal and add 2 assists. He did also dominate the WJC 2nd Division do not play against Canada or Nothing but he also doesn't have Guy like A.Stewart on in Left Side . I say they both play well and i don't think Richards should be draft Over Kastitsyn.

OK, what we have here is a rough draft sample of a combination first round of all the past three NHL Entry Drafts (2001, 2002, 2003). I know this isn’t even CLOSE to being great, but it’s a start. Please voice your opinions and your own lists. THANKS!!!
I don't want to sound like I'm busting your chops but Patrice Bergeron and Derek Roy weren't 1st round picks. Is this for everyone in the last 3 drafts of just 1st rounders? Nice idea by the way...

on the argument of j-bo and pitkanen, we can go back and forth...however, i believe ptikanen is more offensive minded than j-bo, but jay seems to be better at closing down opposing players and is a great asset to any team, he makes guys around him better....on the panthers he is already a "veteran" to other guys....in the long run, pitkanen will probably put up more points, but j-bo will be a better all around d-man and more valuable to the team

Not enough love for Getzlaf in these posts. He is obviously very underrated around here.

(and no, Fleury ain't there)
thats a very interesting list...i just dont see why semin is so high up there?? also, fleury should be in everyones top 10, why would he be drafted 1st overall in one of the deepest drafts in the last few years if he wasnt top 10 caliber

i would maybe take out semin and put in a vanek...even a hemsky at least
