Each reply, by the number, is the pick on the board (say if you are the 22nd reply, you have 22nd pick)
This would make this one pick number one
Montreal (via Colorado) Selects Wayne Gretzky.
Now go on young lads.

After much consideration, at #8 the Boston Bruins are proud to select, from the Kitchener Rangers, Paul Reinhart.

We will be very careful to make sure that Reinhart is careful when skating behind his net.

Canadiens owned Colorado's #1 pick. Montreal had the right to either Colorado's 1979 or 1980 1st rounder from trading Ron Andruff and Sean Shanahan to the Rockies. The deal had been made by Pollock with an eye for Gretzky. Because Pollock was unsure if the NHL was going to change the age restriction to fight the WHA he structured the deal so the Habs could make the call on which of the Rockies picks he could have. Wayne's rather unique contract situation kept him out of the draft, so Montreal deferred to the 1980 draft (and of course blew the pick).

With the #9 pick the Toronto Maple Leafs take Brian Propp
