really happy he got in today for 2 reasons. first it probably gives him a little boost of confidence heading into the offseason knowing that he can perform in that environment. second it cements in my mind that it wasn't a fluke, that the bratt we saw in the second half probably isn't the "real" bratt. he just needs to get stronger in the offseason and hope that he'll be more prepared for a full nhl season

Kid played very well, I trusted him with the puck more than most.

You have to wonder if we had Bratt, Gibbons and Grabner in all series instead of the sloths.

Just for reference here, Bratt ended the season with 1 goal in his last 30 games, Gibbons 1 goal in his last 36 games, and Grabner 2 goals in his last 21 games.

So, while their speed may have helped, I doubt the outcome would have changed.

I think the bottom line is he hit the rookie wall. The week or two off helped him and he came back better for game 5. It just seems that he probably should have been given the rest a few weeks earlier. He was kept out a game here and there but nothing extended to allow him to recharge his batteries both physically and mentally. It got to the point where he lost confidence and was looking to pass when he had good shooting opportunities. That's probably when he needed to sit for a while (although injuries to our other wings may have prevented that).

Just for reference here :

Gibbons was never the same after his return from injury

and

Grabner turned out to be an absolute BUST

Sorry but the comparison involving Bratt with those two, doesn't hold much water.

He did hit the rookie wall as @Nubmer6 correctly pointed out(also doesn't help that he was not used to the 82 game grind as opposed to the 40+ he played overseas) but his value to the team is much greater than Gibbons or Grabner, imo.

I'm just glad we can be back to being excited about his future rather than arguing about whether he deserves to be in the lineup or not. He gained a ton of experience and has an offseason to get stronger. A Bratt, Palmieri, Anderson, Noesen right side could be fun.

It was CRITICAL that he got that Playoff experience.

Because the regular season and the playoffs are two different animals.

Very good that he got to see how things were in comparison and I think he fared pretty well in adjusting to the atmosphere. Even if it was for just one game (should've been more).

Well, what makes REALLY makes him more valuable is his youth and that he has room to improve. The guy was... what... 19 when he started the season? He's cost controlled for quite a few years and has a higher scoring ceiling than either of them. Grabner's and Gibbons are in their primes now and most likely only go downhill from here.

If only he converted here.

And if only he played more than JUST Game 5 here.

Oh well. What's done is done.

I look forward to next season. :)

(nice stretch pass by Butcher, btw)

Bumped up the thread.

Hope for better results, myself.

Also,

It's only a scrimmage but the encouraging thing is that Bratt is back with Hall and Nico instead of Palms being with them. Again, I know it's only a scrimmage but at least this confirms that Hynes views Bratt as one of his regulars now .

Hynes, Devils bring intensity to Saturday's scrimmage

Jesper Bratt, who participated in the morning practice session and scrimmage, had a noticeable extra step in his stride, telling NewJerseyDevils.com that working on his stamina to withstand the grueling 82 game regular season was a priority after his rookie NHL campaign”

Bratt’s acceleration was phenomal last year before he wore down. If his top speed increased, watch out.

Unless she literally means he changed his skating technique.
