I wanted to build a real hockey team, not juste an All stars team ! I'm proud of the team I bulleted, I think that this team have a melange of all the ingredient that make a team successful, we have gritty player, we have speed, we have talent, we have some shutdown d-man, each player brings something to the team and that what make a good team !

The Flyers selected a mix of elite talent and young players that are built for the new NHL. Speed and skill over size and grit. This current lineup has no less than 5 future Hall of Famers with the possibility to add more depending on how the careers of Patrick, Girard, and Nylander go. The first two lines are about as good as it gets. Ovechkin and Crosby have been the faces of the NHL for a decade. Nylander, Kane, and Marchand are bonafide stars in the NHL and Datsyuk is a legend and still a magician with the puck while adding above average defensive play. The 3rd line of Haula, Couture, and Wood brings a mix of speed, skill, and grit who can match up against the best the NHL has to offer. Kempe, Patrick, Beauviller is the future of the team and adds a line of pure skill and intangibles that young players usually don't offer.
My defensive pairings are a mix of speed and skill with a little bit of snarl. Lundqvist perhaps gets his crown with this team. Kinkaid is a solid backup that led the Devils to a playoff berth this year.

I did not draft the majority of this team but this team is built for the future. Hedman and Hamilton could be one of the best pairings ever and Andersen and Crawford are another great goaltending tandem.

Captain - Anze Kopitar
Assistant Captains - Roman Josi, Joe Pavelski

Forwards - $51,319,167

Nikolaj Ehlers (0.894) - Steven Stamkos (8.5) - Joe Pavelski (6)

Brayden Schenn (5.125) - Anze Kopitar (10) - Tyler Toffoli (4.6)

Alex Killorn (4.45) - Nazem Kadri (4.5) - Teuvo Teravainen (2.86)

Alex Kerfoot (.925) - Ryan Spooner (2.825) - Bryan Rust (.640)

1zg54xy.png

The strength of this team is down the middle. Stamkos being an offensive dynamo as he smashed his career high in assists with 59 this season he has proven he's more than just a goal scorer. Kopitar is in the mix for the Hart trophy and justifiably so after an incredible 92 point season and being one of the best defensive forwards in the game. Kadri has found a great balance of offense and defense with back to back 32 goal seasons while anchoring a shut down line. The forward group is chalk full of skill, leadership and youth. Pavelski (33) and Kopitar (30) being the elder statesmen of the core they are built to be a dominant team for years.

Line 1: Ehlers - Stamkos - Pavekski

Great offensive threat with all three being strong set up men as well as finishers. When you need a goal this is the line rolling over the boards.

Line 2: Schenn - Kopitar - Toffoli

What a two way line. This line can match against any in this draft defensively and even with Toffoli's 47 point season they summed 209 points this season. They would wear you down physically.

Line 3: Killorn - Kadri - Teravainen

Another two way line with offensive ability. Killorn and Kadri play a good defensive game allowing Teravainen to create. A combined 166 points shows the damage this line can do offensively.

Line 4: Kerfoot - Spooner - Rust

Three buzz saws flying around the ice all speed and energy guys that produce offensively.

Defense - $21,287,500

Roman Josi (4) - Colton Parayko (5.5)

Jake Gardiner (4.05) - Jacob Trouba (2.81)

Zdeno Chara (4) - Jakob Chychrun (.925)

21262l5.png

The defense is built on responsibility. Our big 3 are strong two way guys that won't let you down in your own end. Josi is an all-world 2 way defenseman that is about as all around as it gets in this league. Parayko is a young rock beside him allowing them to function as a shutdown pairing while also letting Josi's offensive creativity flourish. Trouba is in the same vein as Parayko in that he can contribute offensively when needed but will make sure he's not compromising his responsibilities.

1st Pairing: Josi - Parayko

As said above this pair are made for each other. Thunder and lightning would be appropriate for these great players. Couldn't have asked for a better pairing.

2nd Pairing: Gardiner - Trouba

in the image of my top pairing Gardiner and Trouba give you offense with responsibility. Trouba allows Gardiner to excel at his strength of being an offensive defenseman. Gardiner has been playing like a #2/#3 D-Man for a while now and I think a guy like Trouba would allow him to really take over as a dominant player.

3rd Pairing: Chara - Chychrun

Past meets future with this pairing. Chychrun has great potential after what he accomplished as a teenager and Chara would be a great mentor to him as he grows. Chara at the age of 41 looks rejuvenated and coming off his best season in a couple years he appears to still have plenty in the tank. Chara gives some veteran leadership to this team as it develops. He has done wonders for McAvoy and I would expect him to have a similar effect on Chychrun.

Goalies - $7,333,333

Martin Jones (3)

Devan Dubnyk (4.33)

2w6ujo0.png

I found goaltending to be tough as even the top goalies seem to be battling their ups and downs (Price, Holtby etc.) I felt the best strategy was to set the team up with two strong options and I feel I did a great job accomplishing that. Jones was stellar in taking Sharks to cup finals and has had a great career statistically. Having turned 28 in January he's got a long career ahead of him. Dubnyk has easily been a top 5 goalie over the last 5 years since turning his career around in Minnesota. Two goalies that can carry the team and more than capable to steal a win.

Built this team with now and the future in mind. Left ample cap space for the inevitable raises needed for JT and others. Had a lot of fun with this and while there are picks I would probably re-do, I definitely love the way my D core turned out. Plus, watching Atkinson tear us up in game 2 at least justified my pick a little more in my mind, while torturing my soul.

Forsberg is simply returned to his rightful place.
