BRIEF OVERVIEW(Fantrax League)

League Type: 16-Team H2H Most Cats Contract League - Teams face each other one-on-one and whoever has won the most scoring categories in a given match-up gets the win on their records.

Scoring Categories:
Skaters - G, A, Pts, +/-, SOG, Hits, Blks, FOW(C)
Goalies - W, SV%, GAA
* Face-off wins(FOW) are only accumulated for players positioned in the 2 Center Slots.
* MIN 2GP for Goalies to earn goalie categories

Roster Layout:
2C, 2LW, 2RW, 5D, 3SKT, 2G, 6 BENCH, 3 IR, 12 Minors(Prospects)
* Prospect Spots will increase by 1 each season until the limit maxes out at 16.

PROSPECTS

FOR SKATERS: To qualify as a prospect, a player must be under the age of 24 and have played less than 100 Regular Season Games. In addition, a prospect must be drafted or signed by an NHL team before you can draft or sign one. If a prospect enters a season and is younger than 24 OR has less than 100 Regular Season GP then that player qualifies as a prospect for the whole season(Regardless if that player turned 24 OR eclipsed 100 GP mid-season).

FOR GOALIES: To qualify as a prospect, a goalie must be under the age of 26 and have played less than 45 Regular Season Games. Same rules apply with being drafted or signed by an NHL team as forwards for goalies and they are also considered prospects for the entirety of a season(Regardless if that goalie turned 26 OR eclipsed 45 GP mid-season)

CONTRACTS
Every off-season each team will be given $50M to buy contracts that will be used to give to players you draft. At least $25M must be spent on contracts each off-season. This same budget used for purchasing contracts in the off-season is also used for signing Free Agents during the season(More Information Below). Unused cap space can be retained for the following off-seasons which would give owners more money to spend on contracts. All contracts information will be documented on Google Docs.

NOTE: Take into consideration that you must have a roster full of active players with contracts. 1-YR contracts will be used more frequently than you think.
5 Types of Contracts:

FACE Contract - Given to the Face of the Franchise. Unlimited Duration Contract. Player given FACE Contract must hold contract for at least 2 Years before having contract removed.
SPECT Contracts - Prospect contracts that are given by default to players who qualify as a prospect.
3-YR Contracts
2-YR Contracts
1-YR Contracts

Owners will have the option of signing graduated prospects to regular contracts. While you have to pay more to re-sign a regular roster player, the same does not apply with graduated prospects as the entry level contracts are marginally cheaper.

Rates for Graduated Prospects:
3-YR Entry - PRICE: $10M
2-YR Entry - PRICE: $4M
1-YR Entry - PRICE: NO FEE

At the conclusion of an entry level deal, owners are offered the same rates that newly drafted free agent players are offered(Difference between prospect and free agent players).

Rates for Newly Drafted Players(From Free Agent Drafts) AND Players Graduating from Entry-Level Contracts:
3-YR Contracts - PRICE: $14M
2-YR Contracts - PRICE: $8M
1-YR Contracts - PRICE: $500K

Contract Extensions
Upon the conclusion of that players' very first professional contract, they are offered the rates that are used for extending players. Owners are allowed to extend as many players as they like as long as they have the money to do so. However, extending players will cost more compared to giving a newly drafted player a contract.

Rates for Contract Extensions:
3-YR Extension - PRICE: $18M
2-YR Extension - PRICE: $12M
1-YR Extension - PRICE: $6M

Timeline of the Contracts Given to a Player Starting as a Prospect

1-Prospect Contract(Given by Default)
2-Entry-Level RFA Contract(1,2, or 3 Yrs)
3-New UFA Contract(Using these rates instead of the rates used for extending players allows owners a little more flexibility when handing out contracts)
4-UFA Extension Contract(That player can be offered as many extension contracts as you would like to give them through the years)

TRANSACTIONS

TRADING

* When an owner trades a player, the contract moves with the player to the new team.

* Draft Pick Trading is only allowed for Prospect Draft Picks.

* Owners are able to trade SALARY that is used for buying contracts in the off-season.

CLAIMS

* Each owner has a budget of $50M given to them in the off-season for contracts. The same budget is used for signing waiver wire players DURING the season. Bid increments of $50K when signing a player. Players that are added from Free Agency will then be assigned a standard 1-YR Contract unless an owner has signed a prospect-elligible player(player is given a SPECT contract by default)

* Each team is allowed 2 Claims per week.

Owners will bid on free agents during the season. Extending players that were added mid-season are no different from regular roster players. Franchise players are the only players that CANNOT be dropped or traded DURING the season(Franchise status partially lifted during off-season).

Once our league trade deadline has passed, any undrafted free agent that signs with an NHL team whether that player is from College, Europe, or Juniors, etc is not eligible to be claimed until the Prospect Draft(for prospect-elligible players) or the Main Draft(for non prospects). Different scenarios are listed below:

Scenario 1: Jimmy Vesey was drafted originally by Nashville prior, therefore his rights were owned. Through the college loophole that exists in the NHL, he was able to sign with another NHL team at the conclusion of his college career. But since he was already drafted, he was already allowed to be signed at any time.

Scenario 2: Zach Aston-Reese, a college player that WAS NOT originally drafted by an NHL team but was signed to an entry level contract by the Penguins following the end of his college career, would have to be drafted during the Prospect Draft or right after(if no one drafted him) since he was signed after our trade deadline.

Scenario 3: Alexander Radulov left the NHL for the KHL. No team held his rights when he left. Not eligible if he signs a NHL deal after our trade deadline. You could draft him in the Free Agent Draft or after(If no one drafted him)

Scenario 4: Trevor Moore, goes undrafted at the NHL entry draft, signs a contract with the Leafs well after our trade deadline. Must be drafted in the upcoming prospect draft or added after(if no one drafted him)

DRAFTS

Inaugeral Free Agent Draft(20 Rounds) - Traditional Snake Draft with 1 Minute/Pick. Randomized Draft Order.
Inaugeral Prospect Draft(7 Rounds) - Traditional Snake Draft with 7 Hours/Pick and Dead Hours. Order is reversed from Free Agent Draft.

Future Drafts: 7 Hours/Pick
Free Agent(10 Rounds) - SNAKE: Draft takes place in Fantrax live draft lobby on July 1st. Order is RANDOMIZED
Prospect(3 Rounds) - NON SNAKE: Draft in league forums and will occur upon the conclusion of the 1st round of the NHL draft. Draft Order based on prior regular season standings with draft lottery influencing those final standings.

Once the Free Agent Draft has been completed, owners will have the remainder of the off-season to assign contracts to their players. A deadline date for assigning contracts is still TBD. If an owner does not have enough players rostered after the Free Agent Draft, then they are expected to sign players through the Free Agency Pool or bring up prospects.

All non playoff teams are entered into a draft lottery to prevent tanking. Your team will be assigned one or two NHL squads depending where you finished in relation to the final NHL standings and however the NHL draft lottery goes, ours will follow. Winner of the championship gets the final pick each round and the runner up is second to last. Everything in between follows reverse standings.

* NO DRAFTING PROSPECTS IN FREE AGENT DRAFTS AND VISE VERSA

PLAYOFF FORMAT

10 of 16 teams make the playoffs. Top 5 teams from each conference clinch playoff berths with the top team in each conference clinching a BYE for the first round. Playoffs will last a total of 6 weeks.

Round 1: 2nd Seeds vs. 5th Seeds and 3rd Seeds vs. 4th Seeds

* Re-seeds going into next round based on regular season record. For example, if the 5th seed defeats the 2nd seed and the 4th seed defeats the 3rd seed then the 4th seed becomes the new 2nd seed and the 5th seed becomes the new 3rd seed going into next round. (3 teams from each conference move past the 1st round with 1st seeds already advancing to the 2nd round)

Round 2: 3-Team Round Robin
Each team will have a 1 week match-up with each other in the same conference and play 1 out of conference league match-up in the 3-Week 2nd Round Period.

SCHEDULE
WEEK 1: West 1st vs West 2nd, East 2nd vs East 3rd, East 1st vs West 3rd
WEEK 2: East 1st vs East 2nd, West 2nd vs West 3rd, West 1st vs East 3rd
WEEK 3: West 1st vs West 3rd, East 1st vs East 3rd, West 2nd vs East 2nd

2nd Round Tie-Break Playoff Scenario: 1st West loses to 2nd West, and wins vs 3rd East and 3rd West. 2nd West loses to 2nd East, and wins vs 1st West and 3rd West. Both teams have a 2-1 record but since 2nd West beat 1st West, 2nd West moves on to the finals.

Round 3: Teams with the best record from their respective conference moves on to the league finals which lasts 2 weeks.
