don't service dogs get attention like petting and such as rewards?

never pet a dog without asking period. professionally trained or not.

my dog looks fine and acts fine around people until they try to touch her. she instantly starts growling at most, if they persist she mouths them.

rescue and i don't know why she does it, and haven't been able to break it.

i feel bad when a kid looks super hurt but it is better than a dog bite.

also, many people around the world are actually afraid of dogs no matter how well trained.

Yep, they get trained similar to how you would train your own dog. Positive reinforcement by petting, treats, "good boys", etc. My dad had a rescue who loved all human interaction but didn't trust even the nicest of dogs. It's a sad situation when you think about how there's something in their past that caused this, but the important thing is that you are providing a place of stability for her now. So I commend you for that.
