Now? Probably yes. Then as a 12 year old? Nope.

Also, I wasn't there which doesn't really change things but whatever

WRAL2 lol. Up in the 1200s. Had to cut it to two hours to get in the Hill Street Blues... :help::help::help::help:

Ah well no matter I don't get WRAL anyways. Of course it pisses me off that AT&T U-Verse doesn't air the NHL Network, but that's another story.

Sucks they had to cut it short though.

I went to the game. I was 20. I had been dating my future wife for a month and a day. I remember telling her that one way or another I'd get to see the Cup. I would have stayed and taken it in for sure. My parents were getting me tickets for me for 2 games, and before the series started, I chose 5 and 7 to maximize my chances to see the Cup one way or another, though I of course believed we should\could win. Game 5 was such a gut punch, but nothing can top game 7. One of my favorite memories was that they had to let us into the Eye in waves. I wish I hadn't been a poor college student. Only got one shirt that night, wore it to pieces over the years. Really wish they would sell more. I was a bit upset they didn't have anything at the celebration in February.

I remember reading that thread last year, I think you or someone else posted a link to it. Montreal and Buffalo fans were crying salty tears in there too. But but, they don't appreciate it like we would have, this is Canadas game they said.

yeah that was me. my favorite was the guy who said "i can't believe the cup is going to a team with cheerleaders."

that and the salt over williams getting the empty netter

I was still living in Apex at the time. Didn't have tickets, because who can afford that. Couldn't concentrate at work all day, really nobody was. Boss told everybody to go home at 2. I killed the afternoon playing Canes vs. Oilers on NHL 2K5 (the one with Martin St. Louis on the cover, still for my money the best hockey game I've played) and got 100 chicken wings to put on the grill. I felt like I was going to throw up most of the day out of nervousness.

Had 2 friends over. When Justin put in that empty netter we just kind of sat there in shock. Watched the Cup raising until they shut off (****in' right!!!!!!) then got in the car and hauled tail 20 miles back into town just to hang out in the arena lot.

Awesome night awesome memories.

I still have my Stanley Cup champs shirt. You can't really tell what it says anymore, but I'll always know.

As for me, I was taking summer classes in Boone and watched it with a few people in the dorm lobby. My eyes almost welled up when Williams scored. After they went off the air, I went out for a drive, honked at all the people in the bars, then went back to the dorm to study for the individual income tax exam I had the next day. Lamest celebration ever.

**** tax.

I was living in uptown Charlotte at the time, Fourth Ward. Of course in Charlotte there was only a vague sense that the game was happening... hockey fans were pumped but the general population regarded it in the same way that Raleigh would react to the Hornets being in the finals. I put a TV out on our patio facing the street, and grilled out. People walking by would stop and watch for a while. I was pretty drunk by the third period, and making fast friends, most of whom had probably never watched a Canes game until that moment. It was a great night.

I was cheering for the Oilers (Edmonton born, followed Gretzky to LA) in that series. Hadn't come around to the Canes yet.

Amazing how the key cogs for the Oilers were that only for those playoffs.

Had my two sons with me up in the 300's (330 I believe) and we stood and yelled and when Justin made the empty netter I picked my 8 year old up and squeezed him so hard that he started to cry a little. But then those tears turned into ones of joy. My two sons are now die hard, win or lose Carolina Hurricanes fans. We saw every home game of the playoffs and it about put me in the poor house. But it was worth every penny.

he carved poor Saku's eye right out of its socket. Clearly intentional. How he escaped jail time is beyond me.

and how we ruthlessly murdered roloson

the thing that always baffles me about those playoffs, never mind the finals, are the people saying we only won cause roloson was out, yet they all conveniently forget that we didn't have our starter either

gerber only won one game that playoffs, in the ecf (granted it was a huge 4-0 win as i recall)

rookie ward won the other 15

Like a week ago I saw an Oilers fan on Reddit claim if it wasn't for injuries Carolina never would have won the cup.

Obviously my response was along the lines of Buffalo roflstomping Edmonton if everybody was healthy.

The guy didn't get the joke and earned a good share of downvotes along the way.

Super serious edit:

Every team deals with injuries in the playoffs. Eric Cole was a ppg when he went down. Weight had his shoulder injury. Aaron Ward played thru a concussion iirc. I'm sure there were others playing injured as well.

Guys the NHL clearly rigged the playoffs for us that year. I mean Saku Kovius two secondary assists were a lock to win the Conn Smythe. I think deep down we all know this but refuse to acknowledge it.

I still have my Stanley Cup shirt but it's faded over the years, can barely fit in it now. My Conference Championship shirt on the other hand is still like new, probably because I rarely wear it.
