wrong, Mario was the superior player from 86 onwards. And before that Trottier and Bossy were the best players following the Lafleur era.

sorry you were fooled by stats

But i did like the way Gretzky would jump into his defenceman/bodyguards arms when he scored in the last minute of a blowout against a weak West team.

It must have reminded you of Lafleur, his hair implants flowing in the gentle breeze, leaping into the waiting arms of Pierre Larouche, dreaming of the day that viagra would be developed and life would be complete... I bet that gets you hot enough to need a cool drink of "Flower Power" sports beverage, eh choochie???

only played half the decade and still won more hardware than anyone else in the league. 2 cups, 2 conn smythes, 4 art rosses, 2 harts. he's easily the player of the 90s.

Sure, he's easily the best skater of the years you mentioned. Remember though, Hasek had arguably the best run ever seen by a goalie from about '93-2001. 5 Vezina's, 2 Hart's, 1 Pearson, and lead a pretty mediocre Buffalo team to the finals. Not to mention how he almost single handedly beat Team Canada in 1998. He also added another Vezina and a cup just after the decade ended.

Both are all-time greats, both were easily the most dominant force in the league in their prime (but are awful hard to compare because of position), but Hasek actually played most of the 90's, so i'll give it to him. Despite being a goalie Hasek still played around 500 games in the 90's, Lemieux only played 377.

Elias should be in the top 10, too. He's been in the top five for scoring a couple times, brings excellent defensive play and had a key role in two New Jersey Cup victories.

Why is Kovalhuk making people's lists?

He's played for three seasons. He's scored something like 51, 57, 87 points respectively...

Why does he beat out Elias who has been a more prolific scorer than him so far in the 00s...?

The same can be said for Marian Hossa, Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredsson, Steve Sullivan, Brad Richards etc...

That "decline" consisted of finishing 6th in Norris voting in '03-'04 as opposed to 1st or 2nd the previous 6 seasons.

Actually, you're right. I subconciously had him as being not in the top 3 d-men in more than one season. Anyway, I would switch him and Scott N. around. Still, one bad season half way through the decade with one lock out season means he'll get less considerations for top 5 best players of the 00's.

I see only Naslund, Sakic, Brodeur, Iginla, and Forsberg (even though he was injure for nearly a whole season, he was amazing in the playoffs when in came back and no one's going to argue his ppg average, which is higher than everyone except for Mario) as the only top players of the 00's.

I also scratch Kovolchuk from my list and Sundin deserves more mention like one poster pointed out. I think he's been a consistent top 8 scorer for the 00 decade.
