You sure you're not thinking of Maxime Sauve and not Yann? Yann is most definitely a first rounder at this point... certainly really close to top 10 if not.

My bad. You are correct -- Yann Sauve is probably in the 15-25 range right now (ISS has him No. 24), but that still wouldn't be a "drop" into the mid-first round if he's already there.

I'm sure plenty of people have Petrov higher on their list than Filatov. I'm sure some folks at ISS probably have Petrov higher than Filatov. But the good thing about the rankings of a scouting service like ISS is that they take into account the rankings of several scouts to make their lists, thereby eliminating any individual biases and whatnot to form their master list.

yeah. thats a good way of doing things. personally i have no idea who is better. the only one i have actually seen is filatov, well i have seen petrov too, but i hadnt heardt about him yet so i didnt really look for him. but i sure was impressed with filatov.

Stamkos goes 1 and Doughty will be up there depending on who needs defenceman, probably 2 or 3.

Stamkos will go #1 overall next year, my guess is that whoever doesn't want him at #1 will trade the pick to someone who does. Anyone with a high pick gets a great player, there are some very talented kids in the '08 draft, definately different from the past 2 years.

"1. Drew Doughty, D (Guelph Storm)

Height/Weight: 6'0, 213 lbs
2006-07 Statline: 67 GP, 21-53-74, +7, 76 PIM

Scouting Report: The best defensive prospect in a decade. 213 pounds of muscle mixed with the puck skills and smarts of a forward. Fearsome open-ice hitter.

Potential: Superstar defenseman, 15-45-60, 100+ PIM"

"1. Drew Doughty (OHL, Guelph Storm)
6'0, 185 lbs/Born December 8th, 1989

One of the oldest players in his draft class, Doughty is nevertheless an exceptional talent. He would be a top-three pick this year if eligible. As a sophmore with the Storm, the bluechip rearguard led the team in assists (53) and points (74), and finished third in goals on the squad with 21. An exceptionally intelligent player, Doughty's ability to command both ends of the ice is rare among forwards, let alone defensemen. A 100 point season is not out of the question next year as the team will continue to rely on his rapidly maturing game."

Snippets from my 2008 Draft Prelim and an article I wrote on the 08/09 classes. You can tell who I want at #1 ;)

I think Drew Doughty will be the 1st overall pick, however it is still quite a bit early. If Kale Kerbashian who will be playing for the London Knights next season is as good as I think he will be I could see him being a high pick in the draft.

Woah you must be family or know the kid somehwo calling out Kale Kerbashian b eing a high pick... I think he has the skill to be a higher pick but he's gonna be burried on a very deep london team which will cause his draft status to be lower then deserved...

Right now its clear Stamkos and Doughty are the two top players for the draft... I think it'll ultimitly come down to who gets the top pick... if the person who has the top pick has another first round pick I could definitly see them taking Stamkos and another dman with the later first rounder... But if the top pick team needs a dman no way they dont chose Doughty...

This draft is incredibly deep, which is one of the reasons it surprised me when the Sharks took the Leafs pick this past draft... Anyone who goes 15-30 in the '08 draft probablyu couldv'e gone in the top 15 of the draft that just happened... if that makes sense to anyone... Also the depth in dmen available is UNREAL hense why I'm calling out Stamkos the top pick if the top team has two or more first rounders... this year of junior hockey will be fun!

Wow, nice goal by Filatov. I never seen Petrov or Filatov play before, even if they have amazing years in Russia, does anyone think they will slip in the draft a la Mayorov and Cheraponov?

But not the best. I can guarantee that if Filatov happen to be "northamerican" he would be top-3 pick. But hey! You know this russians, he probably already dream about fat 10 years contract and look for aged actress.

I am not I just was thoroughly impressed by his play during his time up in London. He had a lot of skill and I think that if he develops and plays as well as I think he can he could possibly turn some heads. I definitely see him being a second round pick if not late first round. I actually am looking forward to seeing him play this year. He is as someone I know put it, "lightning in a bottle".

I think his defensive game is better than his offensive games, I can't see any holes in Del Zotto's game.

I have it the same way as nativehockey77.

Agreed
This poor defensive rap just isn't there. IMO he had as good a year as I have seen for a 16 year old D. He is a excellent skater with great lateral movement. Also can throw punishing hits but picks his spots. At 16 he was used like Pronger on a real poor defensive team logging 30 minutes per night so don't be fooled by the piss poor plus minus

THAT said .....this is perhaps the most talented group of D I've ever seen in just the O alone so I don't know where he will go next year but I don't think he is going to fall at all.

As of now it's be tight between Stamkos and Doughty.
Who knows what thing's will look like after another season and players moving around the rankings.

Yes, anyone with the notion that Del Zotto is some slick offensive specialist needs to take a closer look. Del Zotto is never out of position and is tough as nails.
He racks up a lot of his assists simply because of his great first passes out of the zone. The guy always puts his outlet passes right on the tape. His skating and his shot are something, but there is a lot more to his game. I'd say he plays a more rugged style than Doughty.

Some time ago this opinion was posted here by a guy who has seen Del Zotto play a lot: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=9356381&9356381
